fitting sky hd and distributing freeview round house

We have just moved into a new house and would like Sky HD installed and Freeview in each room. I have thought about this and cannot think of the best solution.

At the moment we have a plate in the living room with two sockets labelled TV and FM. There are plates in all the other rooms with just one socket in them. All the wires terminate in the loft and each one has got a sticky label attached to it with the name of the room it has come from. When we moved in I connected a wire labelled 'lounge' to an aerial in the loft, and plugged the TV in the lounge into the socket labelled 'TV', so we now have freeview in the lounge.

I would now like to install Sky HD. In the loft each cable is labelled with the room it has come from and there is also a cable labelled 'Sky' which I presume has come from the socket in the living room. My question is now, what is the best procedure to install Sky HD and have freeview in each room in this situation? I have read about loftboxes but am confused about how to connect it to the plate in the lounge as it only has two sockets on it. Also, how would I go about connecting a Sky HD box to it? Is it better to let an independent do the lot, or could I connect up the box and then get a Sky engineer to come round and just fit the dish on the outside of the house?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am finding this quite confusing. Thanks.

Re: fitting sky hd and distributing freeview round house

do you have just 1 cable in the front room or 2?

if you have 2 cables, use one as a return back up from RF2 on the sky box, and then that will give you HD pic (in analog SD format) + freeview to any point in the house.

if you have 1 cable, you need another cable up to the loft, you cant have different signals going different ways up the same cable

Go to Satcure satellite dish LNBs digital TV aerial information and look at the technical section about distributing tv round the house

Some wall plates have elements which prevent the passing of magic eye signals which are used to remotely change channels on a sky box

Thanks for the help. If I connect all this up is anyone aware if a Sky engineer will come around and just fit the dish and then connect it to the loftbox?

It may well be best to get installation by an authorised sky contractor who will arrange to quote for the whole thing

Alternatively, sky will do their usual installation probably to a room of your choice, and the rest can be done later by you or an idependent contractor

Whichever, ensure you get the best of the current offers if you have not had sky hd before
