Communal System Help Please

Hi,

I live in an apartment building and we have a communal sky system which is about 3 years old and it has broke. Our management company are the most useless ppl in the world and have no money to pay for it mending, and have said it will be 6 months atleast before they do. A resident has paid for a new LNB to be fitted to see if that sorts it but no joy. We've been told the next thing to try cud cost up to £1000 and obviosuly no one wants to pay that.

I am wondering how could we go about getting our system repaired or a new system installed for the cheapest way possible? Cos im sure sky wouldnt want 30 or so residents cancelling their contracts.

Thanks for any help.

Andy.

Re: Communal System Help Please

Well, £1000 between 30 or so residents is a little over thirty quid each, which doesn't sound too bad to me. The only place any freeholder or management company is going to find money for maintenance & repairs like this is from lessees, via the service charge. Could it be that they don't currently have cash to repair the dish because some residents haven't been paying their service charge?

Unless you or someone else knows what's actually wrong with the system, I don't see how anyone can advise you on getting it done for less than £1000. Why don't you get in touch with 2 0r 3 local TV engineers, & ask for quotes? But one word of warning - your landlord and/or managing agents are likely to get very shirty indeed if anyone starts messing around with the communal system without their consent.

Re: Communal System Help Please

maybe a more accurate description of why it is broken and does 1 dish feed 12 people? 1000 people?

might help a little bit with a diagnosis, although doing it remotely is hard :P
