Wiring SatNav into head unit loom

The cigarette lighter socket in my car doesn't turn off with the ignition.

Is there enough current available in the head unit wiring loom to hard wire the SatNav to the "ignition on 12v" (easier option) or is it best to go to the fuse box (harder option)?

Re: Wiring SatNav into head unit loom

What make of satnav do you have? I know that the Garmin needs its own make of dedicated cigarette socket power lead to work and does not work on third party power leads. It would seem that third party leads only produce a blank screen, as there are components built into the Garmin lead to set the correct voltage, so it might be more involved than just connecting up 12V

It's a Snooper. I know that the manufacturers do a dedicated "hard wire" cable for it.
