neenan,

Been in the same situation as you and opted for the nuvi 250. Cos of the price, European maps and ability to expand. Got mine at the LINK online for £103 nxt day delivery. It was probably the cheapest (vs ebuyer or amazon) online. I will let you know how I get on by the weelend. Delivery is expected tomorrow.

Re: Nuvi 250 Vs Tom Tom One

I have had the Nuvvi for 9 months. Generally it is excellent. It does have two bad points - but other devices may have them too. 1. It favours minor narrow roads - even if you opt to choose "fastest route". (If you could program it to only use Motorway, "A" & "B" roads; it would be much better) 2. Only one "via point" can be programmed in. Garmin also make a handheld called the "Etrex" (which has been available for some years). It can be programmed with dozens of "via points"

Hey mate

I have been asking this question for the last 6 month and been lazy and also delaying the purchase. i just said "enough" and bought the Tomtom one.

I love it especially being able to update maps from internet sharing.
i would recommend tomtom one!

Re: Nuvi 250 Vs Tom Tom One

Well as promised I have taken the nuvi out for a spin yesterday and I am quitely impressed.

Good features: study arm, charging via usb, small, robust, bright screen and extremely easy to use (As per misses point per view). I like also the full euro maps and free upgrade. Price. it is also quiet accurate. I paticularly like option POI feature: simply touch the screen and identify that point of interest. There is also recently visited places. Nice touch.

Not so hot: The detour function really should be alternative route (like Main route and alternative route) base on current position. This would be useful since the M4 to Swindon had problems and a detour via A4 Newbury might be useflu. Of course you can plot via route (mentionned above) but prior knowledge of the A4 is required. You can't use the unit while charging via usb. This is more a power requirement for the unit...I suspect. And finally.. in some addresses there are place names like "manor house" and there is not a street number. The nuvi can't handle this....or at least I can't find out how

But given the price it is a must by. Later on this month it goes on a Germany trip. Let's see how it handle this.
