Garmin Sat-Nav - Instruction distance before turns?

I upgrade from an i3 to a Nuvi 200 a while back. Love the unit apart from instructions are given waaaaay too early, certainly a lot earlier than the i3.

This means you can't listen to the instructions and must have a vague idea on the map. Have they changed this on newer Nuvis? I want a european version for the summer but don't want to buy one with the same problem.

The distance is updated on screen. Idealy get the passanger to read it to you.

Had mine a few days now but I seem to remember that the instructions are repeated more than once as you get close to a turn. Have you downloaded the latest software?

I realise that but it's a bit awkward. The amount of times it's said to turn right but then there are 3/4 other turn offs before mine. I end up watching the distance counting down.

The i3 said 'in 200m turn right' then 'turn right' at the turnoff.

Well that's what my Garmin 200 does

After looking at the box it would appear mine is a 300 not a 200. The 200 seems better when demoing in a shop. Wonder whether a firmware upgrade would fix it?

I have the "250". I expect the inbuilt program is the same for the "200". The first audible instruction depends on your speed. The faster you are going; the more distance to the turn will be given. Do not worry about other possible turns before your turn. You are normally given 3 warnings, with the final one being, say, "turn left". However; if the inbuilt map is not accruate; the junction may not be exactly where the Garmin says it is. Use the signpost too.
