Sat Nav Holder Project

Hello All

I am writing this thread as I would like to find out which Portable Sat Nav device you own, what kind of bracket/holder it uses and importantly, state any frustrations or flaws you find with the bracket/holder.

The reason I ask is that I am a University Student currently looking into the design of an optimised holder that will not add frustration to the usability of a device that can often be linked to frustration in the first place.

A good example may be that it has a sucker that attaches it to the windscreen, but it leaves marks all over the screen or frequently detaches itself.

Please let me know, and I will reply to intereting threads.

Kind Regards
T.Wallis

Re: Sat Nav Holder Project

I own the Navigo (see big thread) it comes with a window mounted holder which works very well.

I guess it could be improved if the mount had a built in sun visor. Approx 4-5 years ago I had a mount which had built in speakers, there was a connection which you hooked up to the audio out and powered it through the cigar lighter.

I don't think there is such thing as a truly universal mount these days which is a shame, maybe you could work to that brief, design a mount which is truly universal with inbuilt speaker and sun visor. Good point you already made, designing something which could somehow not leave the suction marks on the windscreen.

Good luck

Re: Sat Nav Holder Project

Thats an interesting point. Sun visors are a difficult subject because these Sat Nav holders are not very pleasing to the eye at the moment (general statement) and a sun visor may look abit odd. The problem with this is that the sun may enter the car from any any angle and create glare so it is difficult to come up with a solution that would cover all areas. But, as it is a problem it is well worth investigating.

When buying a car would you consider an integrated holder option if the vehicle company supplied this option?

Thanks

Re: Sat Nav Holder Project

Any Sat Nav solution offered by a manufacturer would be integrated into the console although given the choice of my company Audi's inbuilt Sat Nav and my Navigo with window mount, the Navigo wins every time. My Audi's system does not even show door numbers and is very disappointing.
