TomTom Nav 6 only 3 digit postcode ??

Hi all

I have HTC Touch Cruise running TomTom 6 (6.032v 8355) with western europe map v6.75 1049.

My problem is i cant do a full 7 digit postcode search, i only get to put in 3 digits, I have been told i should have a postcode file which i got Direct from TomTom using this link http://www.tomtom.com/updates/great_...postal_all.zip

I then followed instruction on where this file goes.

If you can't search for postcodes in the UK or the Netherlands, do the following:

1.Exit NAVIGATOR by tapping Exit application in the main menu.

2.Open File Explorer on your Pocket PC.

3.Go to My Device and then select Storage Card or SD card.

4.Tap and hold the folder ZIP and then select Copy.
This folder contains the postcode database.

5.back to My Device and then open My Documents.

6.Tap and hold anywhere on the white screen and then select Paste.
This copies the Folder ZIP from the SD card to the internal memory.

The full postcode search should now work for addresses in the UK and the Netherlands.

After doing this I STILL CANT DO A 7 DIGIT POSTCODE SEARCH.

Can anyone else tell me what to try or confirm to me i have the right files in the right places.

I really appreciate anyones help.

This photo above is showing my "Nav 6 App" Version, also my "Western Europe" Map version, This App version came on a disc with my handset and is dated 08/01/08 so i asume is the latest version to date






The photo above shows that even tho i have typed in for example a "6" digit postcode it will only go as far as show you the town. This happens on any postcode i enter, It will only show me as far as the town and i have to type the rest of the address in my self.






The photo above is showing the files that are stored on my 2gb micro SD, these are the files that were installed on the Micro sd when i installed TomTom on my handset

This photo above is showing the my device/my documents folder, I have the Great_britain postal.zip folder in here as told to do so by the instructions given by TomTom. But this still hasnt worked.

Does anyone have any other ideas ?
Does anyone else have there folders looking different to this and theres does give them the full 7 digit postcode search ?

That method use to work for Tom Tom 5, but for 6 you need to copy that file directly to the memory card not main memory, so as soon as you open the memory card the ZIP folder should be there...

If you still have problems then the tom tom software is free to download you only pay for the maps, PM me and I will send you the software it's only 20MB, just uninstall tom tom from the PDA, erase your memory card leaving only map folders and copy the files/folders directly to the mem card and reinstall....

Do you both have western europe maps installed also using the Great_Britain postal zip ??

I have read that this ziped file will only work with a UK+RI maps as its only GB postcodes and WONT work with Western europe maps.

I take it this information is wrong and it should work then ??

I have tried putting the postal Zip file in on the sd card both zipped and unzipped, it still doesnt work, Maybe i have the wrong zip file ?? maybe the zip file direct from tomtom (link above) is only for tomtom units and NOT PDA's ??

You need to unzip the download.

You then need a folder named "zip" in the root directory of the card. This should contain the file "Great_Britain.postal" together with maybe a .ver file, but that isn't required.

Got it to work by putting folder named ZIP which contains postal file (not zipped) into the same folder as the Tomtom Navigator application. Wouldn't work with it in the SDMMC root or in My Documents folder both of which seem to have worked for others.

You can tell it's working when after selecting postcode icon address screen offers AB1 postcodes, not cities.

I also got mine to work too now, about time too!

The postal code file i posted at the begining of this topic needs unzipping to your PC then run the program from your computer and it will install the postal ZIP file on your pocket pc for you. I ticked the option to install it on my Micro sd card. Now i have the full 7 digit postcode facility!! Peice O P**s really
