Help upgrading card size Tom Tom 510 Go

Help required, Tom Tom 510 Go, have run out of update space on the supplied 256mg SD card, have got a 1gb card have tranfered all files via update, and it will not load up maps, is asking me for my activation code which have & have checked it is correct on the TT code site, but it says it is the wrong code, on entering it.

do you have to do something else to change cards, can find no info on doing this but you must be able to or you run out of update space.

Thanks
Selwyn

Re: Help upgrading card size Tom Tom 510 Go

I found that the best thing to do is to copy everything from the existing 256mb card onto my PC hard drive, change the card in the TomTom to the 1gb and copy the files back. It should then work fine.

Re: Help upgrading card size Tom Tom 510 Go

Have done just this with a view to keeping the original card safe and working off a bigger SD card (no particular need as far as I can see for a bigger one unless you are buying more maps / extra downloads / loading music files as TomTom manages the regulation downloads for the model you have and the memory allocated).

Copying and pasting is easier if you have a card reader on the PC or can plug one in to a USB port (my laptop has the former so it was an easy thing to do). Copying and pasting from the pucka card to the new card was all that was needed and I have subsequenty run all apps / updates successfully for a while. You may not be able to do it as a drag and drop through windows Explorer as the format of TomTom cards appears to be proprietory not FAT32 / NTFS. Use the "Select All" menu option to ensure "hidden" files and folders are collected as part of your transfer.

Re: Help upgrading card size Tom Tom 510 Go

I will second the advice from other posters about copying & pasting the data.

I upgraded my card to a 2GB card and simply created a TOMTOM folder on my desktop into which I pasted the data from my card. Then I copied and pasted it onto the new card. No problem at all!
