Navman PiN570 £99.99 @ Halfords

Just a heads up to say Halfords are doing this unit half price. I Picked one up yesterday and have managed to put the speed cameras on it already!

My future son-in-law also picked up one of these at Halfords (on Boxing Day). He's very impressed with it so far.

My brother has a lifelong membership to http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/subscription.php for notifying them of 2 new cameras in our town but you can subscribe normally for the updates by clicking the link. Then follow the instructions via the SmartST Desktop program and voila!

However, we also put on TomTom 5* which seems to work much nicer and has a proper 7 digit postcode search and of course speed camera alert.

So for £99.99 I've got a TomTom PDA...happy days

*afterputting it on a 2gb SD card I have.

Re: Navman PiN570 £99.99 @ Halfords

I was looking at buying a TomTom one.

£100 for the Navman compared to about £160 for the TomTom, this seems a deal.

What's it like for touch screen etc compared to the TomTom.

How much is the software?

I've borrowed my Dad's before and found that great.

Cheers

Hi Alan.
I have lost my PDA which had TOM TOM 5 on it.
If I buy this can I just put my software I have on CD on this unit along with the Navman software?
Also what memory storage card does it take?

Many thanks
Paul

PS Sorry just read your post agian and noticed that its on SD card.

Question Re: Navman PiN570 £99.99 @ Halfords

I brought this at the weekend... It's been in my car searching the GPS for over an hour now and it is still asking for nearest road with just the arrow and a grid on the display... No roads where I am only surrounding areas... Why is this... could it be damaged can anyone help?

Thanks
Kylie

Re: Navman PiN570 £99.99 @ Halfords

I bought one of these at Halfords yesterday and am very impressed! Loaded Tomtom 6 onto it no problem, with full euro maps and full uk postcodes - works a treat, fits onto a 1gb SD card (just!). Havent tried the inbuild GPS program much but it looks okay too...

It took a good 10mins 1st time to find the satellites, but after that was nice and quick. Check the GPS is "on" from the control panel/settings/gps. Set the GPS modem to com8, 9600 bps. If the gps doesn't seem to work you can download a GPS checker utility from navman wich can check/reset it. Hope this helps.

Mines a kingston 2gb with no problems

Pauleylad - there should be no reason why you shouldn't just load it up via Activesync. It maybe Navman but it is just a Windows Mobile PDA with built in GPS reciever.

krelisys - Mine worked out of the box, just put the supplied 256mb MMC card with maps in and press the SmartST button. There is a soft reset button on the bottom left of unit but failing that take it back. The Halfords staff made it very clear if there are any problems I could take it back.

I've now gone to TTN6 also and I am undecided which is the better. TTN5 or 6 is much nicer GUI and Postcode search is a lot better but SmartST seems more accurate in placing you. ST is also integrated into the unit so you can press the buttons for zooming and menus/display, but TTN can be fully operated by your finger on the touch screen so you can use it in situ which makes a lot more sense than struggling with the stylus when the unit is mounted.

Either way I'll leave both on there to choose from while enjoying playing Wolfenstien3D on it....brings back memories
