Re: whats a good wireless bluetooth gps unit

I got a Holux for £36 from Ebay

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/holox-direct54

They were pretty good, speedy delivery and the unit works a treat with TomTom Mobile on my old SPV500

They only have Italian ones at the mo, but do a search on Ebay and you'll find loads of them on there.

Re: whats a good wireless bluetooth gps unit

I'm looking into this too....

Is it better to get a separate one or just get the GPS unit with the TT6?

I want to use it in a car and motorbike

Re: whats a good wireless bluetooth gps unit

I got this for Christmas:

http://www.scancom.co.uk/product.php...8f8a48e0efac13

Works fine with my Tom Tom 6 on my SE P990I. Great little unit. I parked up in work yesterday, put it on my dashboard and it picked up 10 satellites but I have yet to plot a long route with it. May get the chance to at the weekend.

That looks cool. I was told elsewhere though that TT do all they can to try to make the SW work better with their own receivers though.

Is there any truth in that? Otherwise , I could save a packet....

My Holux 321 I mentioned earlier works perfectly with my SPV based Tom Tom. The bumph with it says it'll synch up with 32 Sat's, whenever I look at the settings it's hooked up to 4 or 5.
The one thing is you have to turn the receiver on before you leave the house and let it synch up with the sat's first. If you turn it on when you are moving it will not synch at all. I would say it needs about 2 minutes to synch.

I use it on my motorbike in the clear window of my tankbag.

Generally all Sat nav's do the same thing... i.e get you from A to B without to much hassle. To sieve out the good from the bad tho' there are a few things to look for.

1. Battery life
2. Processor speed (required for quick recalculation and instruction)
3. Satellite chipset (surf star III or similar). How quickly it logs onto a satellite. The TomTom 10 series uses 5 satellites. I believe earlier versions used 3. Using more does not make them more accurate just gives em more of a chance of a fix all the time.
4. Ease of use. Some give better spoken instructions like "Take the motorway" rather than "Take the next left" and some do "Take the M11 motorway!)

These are the basics but there's a lot more if you require them like bluetooth hands free,Speed cameras,Traffic congestion, calculation of routes,Navpix as on the Navman and how easy it is to set all your parameters for a journey.

You really need to read some reviews or go to some stores for a demonstration of what they can do.

Re: whats a good wireless bluetooth gps unit

I bought this bluetooth GPS receiver (although its cheaper now). Battery life is great, and never had any problems, and about the size of a mtachbox.
Ive also put route66 software onto my SPV M600 and it all works a treat.

Re: whats a good wireless bluetooth gps unit

I can second the mobilefun SiRF III unit. Works very well with TT6, easy to set up, good battery life, even works in the house. Delivered less than 12 hrs after buying online with the cheapest postage option. Well worth the £45 + 2.50 pp IMO.

Re: whats a good wireless bluetooth gps unit

Sorry to but in :-

I want to mount mine in the boot but understand that if the bluetooth connection is lost then the gps receiver shuts down to preserve power. I remember reading that there was a model which you could disable this feature so you could leave it hidden in the car, permanently.

Can anybody tell me which one it is?

Thanks
