Will TomTom One (or others) mute stereo?

As per subject. How far can these all-in-one, or even pda, solutions be integrated into the car. Can the power be hard-wired or is that going too far?

You can get a permanent install kit for the tomtom 300/500/700 but not sure about the one.

The kits all hard wired and can if you want mute the radio.
