Got my Omnia today, liking it so far, but a quick question.

How do I customise the widgets?

shocking battery life,

It doesn't last me a week but it lasts a few days. I can't complain either... ever uses a N95? Now that's shocking battery life!

shocking reception,

I do have this issue when using Orange but not when I try other networks' sims so I put it down on them. I haven't missed a call yet but T-Mobile has a much better coverage.

unfathomable scrolling action at times,

Touch screen

the list goes on - constant closing of programs via task manager

Fair enough

and constant failure of the thing to 'wake up' to name but a few.

Now, that's a lot for one person! Are you sure your phone isn't faulty?

I mean I like my gadgets, but for the life of me I cant get the thing to work and feel like it's at all intuative.

Coupled with that, I had the misfortune to have a good play with an Iphone over the weekend, my god, talk about chalk and cheese, now that is a proper smartphone.

The iPhone is great if you don't need Winmo so there isn't much sense in comparing further. And most importantly... Do your research before investing in a gadget!!!!!

I did plenty of research thanks! But you can't really get a feel for how the phone actually 'works' on a daily basis. I'm sure the unit has a small bug with the screen not waking up, but apart from that it works fine, it's just a very fiddly non intuative operating system

Re: Samsung Omnia (i900) Owners thread

I like this phone but the battery is really annoying. Goes down so quick even when im not using it.

2 days ago i charged it up fully, went to bed and woke up (about 8/9 hours) and the battery was dead. now i knowi wasnt up in the middle of night and playing on it but still it wouldnt have gone so quick.

So i charged it up again the same day. I hadnt been on the internet just texted a few people and the battery had gone down 1 bar already, by the end of the night it was down to 2 bars (from 5).

Is there a way to get the battery better? pretty much the only thing annoying me with it. i end all tasks via the task manager so its not like i have loads of things sapping the battery.

The info i have on the phone is: PDA: i900xxhhd/achh3. Phone i900BUHH2. Dont know what difference it will make if i update it or anything?

Re: Samsung Omnia (i900) Owners thread

Well i can't put up with the problems on this phone any longer. i've decided to ring vodafone and get the firmware updated.
Rather than send my phone off and do without a phone i told them it was there problem so they should sort it out (politely of course) without me doing without a phone. After 20 mins moaning about the problems with the phone they agreed and have dispatched a replacement so its a one for one swap. should be here today.

Now hopefully this comes with the latest updates and gives me no problems.

If there is still problems when i get the new handset whats the chances i could tell vodafone i want a different handset entirely and they give me one?

Chalky.

I too am really interested in finding out more about games for the Omnia as I'm looking at getting it when my contract expires next month
My sister has an ipod touch and some of the games look ace. I currently have an n73 and love the ngage games and that it can play sega games (with an emulator of course ) so don't wanna lose out on them when I get an omnia.......

I've looked at iPmart® forum - Powered by our members! and they seem to have a few that are omnia compatible.....don't know if that means they're set up for the touch screen though (I assume??)

Well damn, I asked about this (not here) before buying and was told I could personalise them.

Pity, as they seem quite pointless otherwise. If you could personalise them and have the apps you use most frequently, they'd be fantastic.

Re: Samsung Omnia (i900) Owners thread

Received my Omnia 2 weeks ago and noticed that it kept shutting down i have now isolated this. when you put the phone down slightly too firmly or drop it say from a height of 15cms or if sliding along the dashbord cluster of the car it shuts down and has to be restarted. thinking that this might be a problem with the motion sensor I turned the function off.....still the same problem!!!

Now I called CPW and they came and replaced the phone immediately, I charged up the phone and guess what exactly the same problem!!!

Now is this a fault that others are experiencing or maybe a bad batch of phones i really like the phone but cannot possibly put up with this!!

Try it for yourself, I'm not talking about throwing it on the floor or anything. just hold the phone abot an inch above a writing pad or some such surface and let go and report your findings

cheers

Jimbo

I am on Vodafone.

also still cant get to grips with saving stuff to the 8gb instead of the crappy phone memory. Is there a way to do it on the phone so everything i do (take pictures etc) go straight to the 8gb instead of the phone memory.

Re: Samsung Omnia (i900) Owners thread

Have you tried the vodaphone site loads of tips on there , for the memory just cut and paste to a folder on the 8 gig memory . Hold the stylus down and you will see cut or copy on the photo of folder you want to move.

It seems that vodaphone are having a lot of problems with their omnias because of vodaphones own software do a google search and look at all the problems with the phone.

If you do make sure its backed up in the files section make sure you choose the right directory ie phone and not my storage.hold the sylus down and you can cut from the phone memory to stoarage , even if you have to 2 lots of files with the same files choose one and delete as chosen.

Hi all,

Am thinking, because of some of the extra features to change my 2g iphone for an omnia - what's the touch sensitivity like for the screen compared to the apple - can anyone answer this, also, what's it like for music - can you choose by album, etc same as the apple?
Thanks everyone

Re: Samsung Omnia (i900) Owners thread

Quick questions;

1 - I want to put album artwork onto the phone as well but not sure how - if I just put a jpg of the artwork in the same file as the tracks when i drag them over to the phone will that be enough ?
2 - Do I have to use media player to sync music with the machine - are there any better programs out there as i really really don't like media player for doing that
3 - i have my contacts set up in outlook that has multiple phone nos for each contact but when I sync the phone using activesync, it keeps them all seperate - am I missing something?

Thanks for answering, I have looked around for answers but cannot find a specific one.

Lentini thanks for the link btw

If you're keeping them in a folder for each album, just rename the album artwork as folder.jpg (also resize the jpgs to around 150x150, it'll save space and won't slow your phone down as much) and keep them in the same folder as the mp3s

I never use a progam to sync my music on my phone although have a search for MediaMonkey. It's a great program, very easy manage your music with.

Re: Samsung Omnia (i900) Owners thread

Thanks very much for these tips, very useful - will have a go later on and see what I can do!

I installed one of the iphone copying programs for the music and that works well but the sounds seems very low - has it already been reported somewhere that some people have had sound issues with music on this phone or am I dreaming it?

I have installed one of the new themes and it has gone through all the options but hasn't installed on the phone - nothing looks different - am I doing something wrong or missed something obvious - it's a theme but not sure if I need spb mobile shell installed first

[quote=babybearbarker;8012606]Quick questions;

If you want to show artwork ,you will need to tag your files ,i use Tag&rename ,but there are loads of freeware progs that will do it for you.
I never sync ,just drag and drop .
