I must admit I upgraded from the iPhone 3GS so I can't really comment on the 4, but I've had the S2 for just over 5 weeks now and still loving it! The screen alone is worth the change and watching media and surfing the net is a joy to use because the screen is just so much bigger. I also feel I can customize the phone so much better than the iPhone and have now got a phone that I am truly happy with its looks and feel. I have also upgraded to the latest firmware, even though it is not officially released by Samsung, without the need to jailbreak or root although this is only possible because it is an unlocked unbranded phone from Phones 4 U.

I used to be a real iPhone fan boy, but changing to the S2 was the best thing I did.

Just interested as a current Android user.
I feel I shouldn't have to jailbreak a phone to get it the way I want it, also running the risk of voiding my warranty along the way.

In my eyes jailbreaking an iPhone just makes it into a glorified android phone, so why not just buy an android in the first place.

I hope Vodafone don't customise the software on the Prime with their clunky branding!

The beauty of Android...even if they do (Unlikely as they rarely do now).....just upgrade the firmware with ODIN....or even simpler just switch to a different launcher

I had to unlock the bootloader on my N1 - Do Samsung phones work in a similar way?

I thought you had to have an unlocked phone to update the firmware, most networks that supply the phone lock it to that network and only push the updates they want you to have.

I'm not sure about other networks, but Vodafone haven't locked contract phones for years. Unlocking a phone doesn't allow firmware to be replaced. In the case of HTC it's the bootloader which controls access.

Not a problem on the SGS2..i'd imagine the Prime will be the same.

No you can load Custom Rom's without affecting the carrier lock. The carrier lock is simply there to stop you using on a different network. Many network's leave contract phones unlocked (02 and Vodafone for example) and many stores (CPW) now sell all PAYG handsets unlocked.

HTC started locking bootloaders a year or so back but because of many complaints from the Mod community they have now stopped locking bootloaders.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 has an unlocked bootloader.

I read this a while back, which is great for the likes of me and thee. Fingers crossed the Prime will follow suit!

I asked the question on another forum a while ago, and the response was that Google will not allow the operators to add their bloatware to this device This will ensure that any updates from Google will be received when Google issue them, not when the operators decide to release them.

The specs may look better but unless you want the bigger screen it's not really an issue. It's not like the SGS2 is suddenly going to get 'slower' if/when a faster phone comes out . It's spec already ensure's it blazingly fast and will be more than capable of running ICS when released.

I'd just go for the phone with the form factor/styling you prefer.

(wife, FOUR kids, Mortgage, 2 dogs, 4 lizards, 11 tarantula's and a tortoise here btw so I'll only be having the one phone....)

You've surpassed our clan of 1.5 dogs, 3 cats and a horse!

Looks like the word "Prime" is dropped from the name. Showing up as the 'Galaxy Nexus' officially.

What a pointless update. Same CPU (or worse !!, OMAp not been very good), same RAM, worse camera, maybe not even SD card. Just crazy big screen?

No thanks.
