Galaxy S or Wave?

I'm looking to get my first Smartphone, and have narrowed it down to these two. I know the Wave is BADA based and not Android, but other than that (and the slightly smaller SAMOLED screen), there doesn't seem to be a huge amount of difference in hardware. I like the idea of Android, but it still seems like it's not quite there as a total solution yet (maybe 3.x?).

The Wave is also running a new O/S, but the reviews/videos I've seen seem to rate it very highly. Not so many apps (yet!), but BADA seems to be getting some good feedback, and there are many happy Wave users. BADA apps seem to be gaining momentum as well.

I'm not a heavy user, but like the idea of Internet on the go, and downloadable apps. I can get the Wave £5 cheaper than the Galaxy on O2 with u/l Internet, but whatever I get it's going to be a big change for me because I'm a long time PAYG user.

So, I'd be interested in honest opionions, not just 'bashing' comments.

Honest opinion, if I had the choice between a Galaxy, Desire, Wave, IP4 then from what I know and what I have have seen first hand then by far the best phone for me would be the Galaxy.

That said, its a personal preference & a stonkingly great phone. Yes its a bit slow out of the box but it is highly mod'able, there are lots of hacks for the phone & it is pretty un'brickable. There are lots of site's that show & tell you how best to upgrade firmware's, roms, roots and other paraphernalia.

Thanks for the feedback. I spent at least 2 hours this morning going between phone shops discussing my options, and came away with nothing!

Nobody seems to do the Galaxy less than £30pm with Internet, and £25 for the Wave, except for our local 3 store, who have a special offer on of £20 p/m for the galaxy with 1GB Internet, but 3 don't really have that good coverage and it would mean changing my number.

I don't think £20pm could be beat anywhere though.

I got mine from mobiles.co.uk
400min, unlimited txt's, 500mb @ £25 with 9 months at half price on a 24 month contract, from Orange it can be got for £22.50 but no half price offer.

Because the Galaxy is a damm fine phone and stock is limited the price for contract or fleabay is rising.

I'm loving my wave and can highly recommend it. I haven't compared it to the Galaxy S but I have compared it to the HTC desire. I picked the Wave over the desire in the end.

One of the reasons you might pick the Wave over the galaxy is the size of the phone. The wave is a little bit smaller. It fits into your hand and pocket easily and it looks more like an ordinary mobile phone. This was a factor in my choice as well and its't something you might not have considered at all

Side by side the 2 main differences are size and android\bada OS's. Size is important (although my wife tells me not to be stupid, according to her it really doesnt matter) I prefer a larger screen plus the galaxy is hugely customisable (especially if you like playing with bits n bobs) over the Wave.

You can get a Galaxy S from buymobilephones.net for less than £25 a month on T Mobile. That's with 600 minutes, 500 texts and 1gb internet. If you go for this, use a cashback website. Also, when you get it, give T Mobile a ring and tell them you have an android phone. You should get bumped up to the 3gb FUP and also get an extra free flexible booster, as their android contracts include free internet, so your flexible booster shouldn't be for internet.

From what I can tell, all the best deals on these sites seem to be on Orange, but I was stung by very poor Orange coverage in my area on a previous phone. Not many top offers on O2 though, which always seems to be one of the most expensive.

Also appears like the T-Mobile offers are exceptional, but most require some payment towards the handset cost, and you have to watch out because a lot of the standard tarrif's don't include Internet. Add another £5pm for that.

I'm away for a couple of days now, but will get onto it when I get back.

Eh? The T-Mobile deal I spoke about above gives you the handset for free and it includes internet.

The galaxy s is Samsung's flagship phone and there fastest selling phone ever, I know which one I would buy. Tried to tell a customer this weeks ago when me and the wife were out getting her new phone, He had not heard of the Galaxy s and was having none of it, so he got the Wave . You can lead a horse to water eh!!!

The wave is a cracking phone that works better out of the box than the Galaxy S..... but the Android apps market swings it for the Galaxy

yeah to be fair the Wave is actually a cracking little phone. I'm not trying to knock it in the least. I think android is the platform of choice at the moment though.

I'm currently deciding between these two as well. Can get a better deal on the Wave but tempted by the galaxy s. I really can't decide!

So throwing in my 2pence worth, If I got a GalaxyS over the Wave and DIDN'T get any apps, how would the comparison be for both phones as I wouldn't know what apps to get straight away?

Basically if you get rid of the Android vs Bada debate the only really difference is the screen size and the Wave having an LED Flash and slightly better battery life. I think if the Wave screen was 3.5 or 3.7 I would have definitely gone for it but the 3.3 might be a bit too small for what I want...

Think I'm definitely going to go for the Galaxy S. Just been into a shop had a play with them both. The Wave is brilliant too but if I'm going to onto a new contract I think I want the bigger screen etc, its amazing. Will probably use hte mobiles.co.uk deal and go onto orange 25. Would ideally like more than 300min though looking at my last few bills I rarely go over 200min and I'm sure 500mb internet will be enough.

Not sure if it's of use to anyone but I'm on Vodafone; was in line for an Upgrade and wanted the Wave.

Vodafone deals on the Wave weren't that good, but they obviously have a lot of HTC Wildfires and offer those really cheaply on contract - on a 12 month extension with 600 mins, unlimited texts, unlimited internet they gave me one for £15 a month for the first 9 months and £30 a month for the last 3 months.

I got the Wildfire, sold it on ebay for £200 (£173 after ebay and PayPal fees), and bought a Wave on ebay for £195 - so effectively I have a Wave on a really good 12-month contract for £20.50 a month.

Might just be a useful route for anyone on Vodafone in line for an upgrade...

a smartphone isnt a smartphone without apps. what makes android and iphone so powerful are there app stores. Personally, I would go for the galaxy s, easily. If you cant afford te £5/month extra, then I would consider the htc desire or the htc legend over bada
