I have recently acquired this handset.
From the outset, I am extremly pleased with this handset, I first saw it when my sister had it as an upgrade. I love the interface functions and think it is of excellent quality.
If I had anything negative to say, it would be that the battery power is not as good as the Sony Ericsson Walkman range, however, I would not trade the Samsung handset for the latter. I have noticed that you have to recharge this handset more regular. In a day of only making two calls (20min each) and some adhoc text plus the odd couple of (few min calls), my battery power bar reduced to 3bars, before my working day was over (4pm), I was on a single battery bar
It took me while to get rid of the key touch beep sound, it was not easy to locate, dont like the fact there isn't a MUTE option - strange this is a generic option amongst the mobile phone range. However there is a way around this (not the most logical, but fit for purpose)
No option to set incoming texts as BEEPs, I generally don't like sound for incoming text, especially when at work. Strange this is a generic option amongst the mobile phone ranges. BEEP sounds are more acceptable given specific environments. Again I found a way around this by reducing the sound volume to zero (MUTE)
At times the touch facility is not too responsive, however, I prefer it that way as opposed to being too responsive, something you can adapt to
The Call Waiting functionality is not the most intuitive, however, you get to grips with it
Putting a person on hold to make a 2nd call, took me a while to work out, where i could select the new call via the contacts list. Initially it provides you the option to manually input the new callers phone number. I dont know about any one else, but I dont know any of my contacts numbers by memory
No ANIMATED EMOTICONS, this is a blow!
The camera quality is excellent
The pictures and screen clarity is excellent
I love the new improved functionality (widgets etc), I like the navigation user navigation options, One favourite - upon selecting the 'call history' you have the option to either call or send texts to the recipient
I like the onscreen options when on a call
All in All I think this is an excellent handset, nothing is perfect. It is far better than the Sony Ericsson W910i which is thwart with problems. Which is the handset I replaced the Tocco with. The S8300 issues i have identified are trivial and can be lived with.
