Screen Problems since power surge, any professionals out there?

Hi All,

I am after some information and could lead to actual physical paid help so if any professionals out there can help...or you know of any please help me!!!

Basically I have a Samsung LE46M87BDX LCD TV and since a double power surge the TV, sporadically, has a red tinge to everything and looks pixellated. Basically I do not know if something on the main board has blown and affects the screen or whether the screen is knackered or what!

If anyone can advise/help/point me in the right direction or has experienced it themselves PLEASE let me know!

Kind regards in advance

Dave

Re: Screen Problems since power surge, any professionals out there?

First thing is every time this happens check what you are watching, from what.

You should first check that is is the TV, if it happens with say the Blu ray only then it might be that.

Is the TV under warantee?

If so a detailed report of what happens and when will help the engineers, stick to facts only not your interpretation.

Pictures also help engineers.

Hope thats some help for you.

If you are getting regular power surges then a cheap belkin surge protector is worth buying.

Your house insurance might also cover this? (Dont know that)

And maybe the supply company for your power?

Worth asking.....

Andy.

Re: Screen Problems since power surge, any professionals out there?

Hi Andy,

Don't worry, I have checked that it is definitely the TV. The TV is no longer in warranty (just outside) and I have tried to approach one company for repair (asking for estimates etc) but they are totally unhelpful (i.e. we have to come out and see it). I am happy to spend if I know what the issue is but not just for someone to see it when you wont be able to see anything as it happens sporadically!

Oh and yes, I do have a Belkin surge protector (which failed!). I am trying to sort it out through them but otherwise I may have to go through another insurance. As it only happens sporadically the only proof I have is photos and video evidence of when it does happen!

All I really want to know is whether it's a screen problem (i.e. blown something) or main board issue. Is this something an engineer can tell from plugging diagnostics into it or will it be a case of 'Well I can't see it mate so there's nothing I can do. Oh and that'll be £50 thanks.' Is there any diagnostics I can do? (I know there's a hidden screen but cannot remember how to access it).

Thanks in advance

Dave

PS The surge only happened once from an RCD going

Re: Screen Problems since power surge, any professionals out there?

Any problems with supply fluctuations see the local power distribution company.. get them to get you a new set..

i used to work for one and they were always shelling out for new stuff for people after a surge..
This one time an engineer hooked up the wrong cable and sent 2 phases down an entire street giving them all 415v..
they had to send people to every house writing down all the blown equipment for replacement.. I think it came to something like 75 tvs, 80 dvd players, 40 sky boxes, 50 PCs, etc. plus other stuff like fridges, microwaves etc, it cost them tens of thousands to sort out...

It all gets recorded at thier end so they will have records they can check if you can give them a date and time you think it occurred...

Re: Screen Problems since power surge, any professionals out there?

I've had the same problem, was wondering if anyone knows what exactly had happened ??

It's not looking good.

Will the warrenty cover a new one, or will the ******s try and fix it ??
