dbA or dbC for setting speaker levels

Just set up my surrounds again using a god db meter,

I used dbC and not dbA for the levels. This seemed to ensure the Sub was not too dominant, any suggestion here my meter reads dbA or dbC. dbA from internet reading rolls off the lower and higher end frequeies more aggressively than dbC. Im thinking that at 20-80hz dbA is not helping set levels as the filter is too great ?

My meter also reads Leq, SPL and SEL. I have been using Leq for looking at background noise and SPL to set speaker levels ??

Re: dbA or dbC for setting speaker levels

i aim for 80 - 85dB, which can be quite loud, but does the trick(for me at least)

SPL level only for speakers, Leq is a time based measurement, equivalent continuous noise level, which is used to calculate average noise levels over X period of time(flightpath dwellers and those who live near motorways will know it well).

dBc is the one to use, as its virtually unweighted, where dBa is a weighted average

Great thanks, I did end up by using Leq for my projector noise tests and SPL for the speaker tests. I kept with the AV8 test noise, not sure how loud this is, but it is far from quiet ! All now set with dbC Sounds great
