Soundproofing a new house build

My partner and I are now looking at purchasing a brand new property. Is there anything that can be recommended during construction to aid in soundproofing the party wall between the two properties? A drink to the builders/plasterers etc might go a long way

Is anyting recommended to do to the floor in the lounge and the ceiling too? (I have been looking at sound proofing underlay on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Soundproofing-...QQcmdZViewItem, will this really work or is there something better i could do or use?)

I will have a 7.1 sound set up and the ability to be able to listen to it at a nice volume without the worry would really mean a lot.

Thanks

Re: Soundproofing a new house build

if your having a new build there are acoustic regulations that the build has to comply with, its worth looking into these and finding the products that will exceed these regs, as well as products that can be used to further improve it. If you are in the position to be able to build what you like then you have a huge array of choice!

Re: Soundproofing a new house build

Thanks for the reply.

I should have been more clear though. We will be purchasing a semi detached property from a developer. As such I wondered that if during construction I may be able to have a word in the site workers ear (offer them a nice drink) and maybe be able to get something done re - soundproofing to enable me to use my system more to it's full potential.

I suppose I am thinking along the line of maybe having an extra layer of plasterboard between the party walls but I really do not know what would work best and obviously I cannot expect them to do too much as they may end up unemployed

Thanks again

Re: Soundproofing a new house build

you can ask them, easiest way to go is to have stud built and that soundproofed off the party wall, that will be the most effective solution.
