Soundproofing a chimney breast wall.

Hi all.

My brother wants his chimney breast wall soundproofed because of the neighbour so he can play his music loudish.

I have read other threads about the false wall way using timber,rock wool and 2 layers of plasterboard so just need a few answers please.

1.Have i just got to build the wall in front of the 2 alcoves or all the way around the chimey breast?

2.What gap between the wall and the new framework?

3.I read that someone said put foam between the timber where it loins the ceiling and wall,what sort and how thick is it?

build a wall away from the existing wall, leave a gap, the depth of which depends on how much room you have to play with, fill the void with rockwool, use plasterboard, green glue(or equivilant), plasterboard on the outside to get best effect.

Do i need to build a wall all around the chimney breast or just in the actual alcove space?

build round the chimney i think
