do i fill a air gap.im not sure

please help.im building my own home cinema and one wall in the room is next to the neighbours (its also on the second floor of my house if that helps) the walls are very thin (ie i can hear them put plugs on and off) ive got sum good speakers that give out powerful bass and ive had to move my dj gear to a different room already.the neighbour was not happy as there light fittings used to vibrate.anyway im putting three suade panels on the wall. with a 6 inch gap between each one so not all the wall will be covered.
the panels are 87 cm wide and run the hight or the room.
ive put a baton down the side of each panel so i can run cables behind them the gap from the wall is quater a inch, then its plywood, then quater inch foam, then
a layer of polyester covered over with suade.

will i get any gain in filling the gap between the wall and plywood.
ie does the air gap help.
im not sure what else to do.its a big problem for me coz the house is rented and i have not evan got a sub yet.
ps i cant go any more into the room as my screen drops from the ceiling.

big thanks to anyone who takes the time to help.

To isolate the sound you must not screw anything to the party wall, all the batons must not touch the wall and must be fixed to the floor ceiling and side walls Put foam underlay strips between baton and side wall/ceiling , fill the gap with fiberglass or rock wool and if possible two layers of plasterboard over the batons , even one screw or nail in the party wall will transmit the sound, think of a needle on an old gramophone, its the same effect.

Cool Re: do i fill a air gap.im not sure

thanks for the advice.ive used 1 plastic wall clip for each panel in the center and it seams to hold fine but i have not put the foam on the ply yet.i was finking of useing 2 inch velcro strips down the panels do u fink that wud carry vibrations. the panels weight also sits on the skirting because ive got trunking going round the room which will sit flush with the suade panel.

Re: do i fill a air gap.im not sure

hold on,

the panels your putting on the wall are suede panels, that are the height of the room, and mounted to the wall , with an air gap behind the panel andwith gaps between them? if thats the case there is NO soundproofing benefit.

the airgap, in this case, will make difference.

Re: do i fill a air gap.im not sure

The advice I gave was to reduce noise transference to and from your neighbors property, I have built a wall and ceiling this way using plans supplied from a specialist company, they recommend a filling of fiberglass or rock wool this is not for sound deadening in your room, the secret is to isolate the partition wall from your room like a sort of "floating wall" make sure the plasterboard does not touch at the edges at the wall and floor/ceiling, and fill the gap with mastic. and do not tighten the batterns hard they should float, I wish i could find the plans or I would send you a scan,

and your advice was good for noise transmission, the OP is about panels on the wall though, not soundproofing
