small odd shaped room speaker problem

hi
i am about to purchase a pioneer htp-gs1surround sound for my xbox360 and samsung 26inch r74 series lcdtv. problem is the room is only 12ft x 8ft dimensions and the room is odd shaped. ive done a mockup of the room with correct dimensions. the filing cabinet though is actually taller and sits at a height level with midway baywindow height. the lcdtv is sitting on a baywindow shelf with a center speaker ontop though i think i may have to position the speaker infront on the shelf. xbox360 sits to left of lcdtv.
chair represents listening position.
1)ive needed to elevate the front speakers so the sound will travel over the filing cabinet. will the sound be ok or will it sound like its above me?
2)ive placed 2 different possible positions for the pair of surround(back) speakers. the fwd position option is only about a 95-100 degree listening angle and the right speaker would be about 1.5-2 ft from listening position.the back position sits on the back wall but has only 3.5ft approx between both surround speakers. which is the better placement please or is there a better option?
any help would be appreciated as im a noob at this

Re: small odd shaped room speaker problem

Speaker placement can be hit and miss, all I can suggest is move them around until you find a good position (without fixing to walls), I know this will be differcult but get someone to help.
Just looked at the spec, good system but don't expect 100's of watts out of it. As with most surround systems they quote fantastic power output but it will never deliver. Note total power consumption is 50W, so unless Pioneer have found away of getting around the laws of Physics you will never get that 100w/channel promised. Example my Cambridge AV Amp also quotes 100/ channel into 5 speakers, BUT it does have a 650Watt power supply.

Do not worry it will still be VERY loud, but I wish manufacters would quote THE REAL power out with ALL channels driven from a single source.

Re: small odd shaped room speaker problem

thanks for the advice. its going to be very difficult setting up the system in one place at correct height and testing it(-it has an autocallibration mic) and then resetting the system and then shifting the speaker position. im not sure that it will work because the other speakers wont be at their correct height (they need to be above listening height) for callibration so the 2 speakers im interested in wont be able to compare with the correct position of others.(even if i mount the front, cental and subwoofers first in their correct positions, i still need to have 3 people, which i dont have,ie 2 to hold the surround speakers in certain locations and 1 to hold the callibrating mic in the listening position)
i was hoping if someone could tell me from experience if you put a surround speaker well above listening height and site it very close, say 1.5ft away whether you lose audibility on said speaker?
