Centre rear placement dilema
I currently have 2 Monitor Audio BFX rears running bipole mode 7 ft apart on the rear wall just above head height. My listening position is near the middle of them and my head approx 1 foot forward of them.
Currently the angled nature of BFX's creates a great image at the rear.
I want to add a centre rear but am concerned that it would be too close to my listning position and as it would be on the same plain as the rest, just confuse the rear image.
I also dont know what monitor audio speaker to choose. I though I had it sussed with a bronze in wall speaker but there is an upright strap for the plasterboard wall bang in the centre.
Your thoughts would be appreciated guys.

Re: Centre rear placement dilema
Is this beyond the genius of AVforums. My wife said that a rear speaker less than 1ft a way would be annoying (without pompt) and I wonder if 5.1 in my case would be best

Re: Centre rear placement dilema
Rear speaker can be placed left/right of the listening position mirroring the fronts.
Usually the best effect you will get with dipol speakers.
Ideally a center rear should be 1 m (3 foot) or more behind you.
The rears in a 6.1 or 7.1 will form a trapezium.
Please note: There are not too many DVDs supporting 6.1 or 7.1 (look for Dolby Digital EX or DTS-EX). Most AV receivers have sound settings which emulate multiple rear speakers. If you like your sound specially processed is a matter of preference (I don't like it but I am more of a purist )

Hi
I would agree with your wife on this one mate that is far to close for a speaker it would wreck the sound of your setup It would drown out the rest of your speakers and draw to much attention to it
Regards
Brian

Re: Centre rear placement dilema
Cheers Pulse 1,
Seems I cant spend money these days on new kit.
Rear centre surround - too close likely to confuse and annoy.
Toshiba HDDVD - 5.1 output model delayed till after Xmas
PS3 - no comment!
Help I need a new toy
Seriously though I had my doubts on the rear center upgrade hence the post. Now its been confirmed I can save on the asthetics of my living room.
BTW anyone looking for a good set of rear speakers with a room layout like mine should that look at Monitor Audio BFX or the models above as they are discreet and really fill out the back wall with sound.

Re: Centre rear placement dilema
Mine hang just above my seating position and to the rear, about 2-3 feet away from my head depending on where on the sofa - if you set the delay and the level right it shouldn't matter where any speaker is provided you have line of sight between the tweeters and your ears (which is why the PA we use doesn't use tweeters for treble reproduction)
