Room layout/Speaker placement advice
I'm currently building a house and I need some help regarding the best speaker setup, projector distances etc. I'm sure many here are insightful and can help. The living room is rather strange; weird angles, sloping ceiling and big windows -- stuff that makes it a bit more exciting than your standard rectangular living room, but alas, makes it somewhat harder to get the perfect setup. The ceiling's height increases from ~2.40 m at the left to ~3.60 with an 18 degrees angle before decreasing again (it reaches it's highest at the line saying "Bummerangtak"). There's also a fireplace ("ÖS"). Blinds will cover the windows when watching movies. All cables will be laid inside the walls/ceiling when building, that's why I need help to prepare. I've created a sketch I hope you can take a look at.
I don't have a A/V receiver today, but I'm planning on buying a Yamaha RX-V1700/2700 or Marantz SR7001/8001. I'd like to setup a 7.1 system in the way Yamaha recommends, using presence speakers rather than an extra pair of surround back speakers. See this link for Yamahas recommendation. As satellites/center/bass I plan on using the KEF KHT-3005 system. As fronts I'll be using my old Cerwin Vega SAT-6 satelite speakers for starters. In the not to distant future I hope to afford a 1080p projector, e.g. the Sony VPL-VW50. Now to my sketch and my questions: 1) As you can see, the placement of the surround right speaker is not optimal. But my question is, will it work? I presume the advanced auto setup features of these receivers should be able to correct the longer distance to the listener, or...? By the way, SL, SR, PL and PR will be placed on the wall at around 1.80 m. 2) The distance between the projector and wall is ~6 m. Is this too far? Do you recommend to move it closer? It will hang from the roof at about 2 m I presume. 3) What kind of speaker cables do you recommend for the back speakers which are pretty far from the receiver? How thick should they be? Any comments? Thanks in advance! ![]() Edit Added additional question. Last edited by aaddie; 08-11-2006 at 8:43 PM. |
