Breaking Glass
A bit of a science Q here, my glass broke in my cinema room just on the inside of the duoble glazed 4mm thick window around the top towards the centre of the window. It seems to happen when I have my cinema room cranked up. I use these http://www.tannoy.com/Default.asp?Id=7946
It is unexplained and weird or could it be something else. Outside of the glass is fine and there is no movement on the top.
Is this possible or a stupid theory because I cannot think of anything else

Re: Breaking Glass
Has it happenned more than once? Is the room small and you're over pressurising it with the sub maybe?

Re: Breaking Glass
I think it must of been a one off, the chap who replaced my windows said it just popped!!
Sometimes this just happens. Only just happened the once.
Thanks for input

Re: Breaking Glass
I know the old 'glass shatters when opera singer sings' phenomena is not totally to do with volume, but also with the frequency being output (in this case by your A/V set up). If the frequency is the same as the one at which your glass resonates, that might have broken it.
What were you playing?

Re: Breaking Glass
Hello again. This has happened again
my glass got replaced 5 months ago and the glass has broke on the inside of my window again.
This is so weird, noticed it the day after the night before I was watching Star Wars III so I must be my Sub or something. Is this possible.
Any thoughts on this anyone Can't believe it my crack is about 1 metre wide
Cheers

Bragging rights won't get you anywhere on this forum meladdo.
Only what has been said previously, or has some one been playing ball in the room? Perhaps the vibration is causing the entire door to vibrate and that's the result.

Re: Breaking Glass
No-one has been playing with my balls.
It must be down to sound vibration It can be anything else. I must have a very powerfull sub Its not the most expensive and powerful one by far you can buy but?
I will now get my 4mm glass replaced again with 6mm Toughened glass which will also help with sound proofing. All for £97.00.
Good job my brother in-law fits windows and doors.
Cheers gazza!

Re: Breaking Glass
The glass could have been stressed with expansion/contraction. Had a double glazed bedroom window replaced 5 times after a crack appeared in it only days after each fitting and then last week a patio door panel went bang. Don't know why as it's been in 12 years and gets the sun most of the afternoon, it sounded like a football hitting the pane but it was the inside that blew.
