Need A Cheap Soundproofing Solution

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew any effective but cheap ways to soundproof a room? I know that green glue is good but have not been able to find any pricing anywhere so could anyone confirm how much it costs please? If this is out of my price range £100-200, then does anyone have any better solutions because unfortunately my walls are like paper and I cant hear voices in my films because ive got to turn it down all of the time Thanks in advance
David

Re: Need A Cheap Soundproofing Solution

Reducing unwanted sound transmission between rooms is quite a large subject. Unfortunately there isnt a single solution that works for all situations. As such, without professional advice you can spend a lot of time and money addressing the wrong issues. If you cant afford to get a consultant in, i would get reading!! Get a decent building acoustics textbook..

Good luck

Re: Need A Cheap Soundproofing Solution

I've been looking into this and its a mine field. On a google search someone had some success by using 2" x 2" frame of wood 2" away from the wall and secured to the sides. They then filled with rockwool or you could use the most dense insulation you can get. Then they masticed all around the frame and secured two layers of plasterboard to this again plenty of silicone to fill any airgaps. From a thread here using green glue between the layers of plasterboard would be better. The post I was looking at only did the alcoves around chimney breast which is what I'm after to do. I've got noisy neighbour problems but these sites are brill for info.

Re: Need A Cheap Soundproofing Solution

Hi,

This is also the first reason i'm here researching ways i can improve the sound insulation of my semi-detatched house.
I'm going to do the same (wood battons/plasterboard and green glue) soon to my party walls. Hopefully it will improve the situation, i know it wont be completely sound proof, but thats costs a lot of money.
