accoustically treat my audio room
Hi guys . i have come to the conclusion that altering the acoustics in my audio room is the first step in improving the end result audiowise- electronics come second. So with that in mind I am open to suggestions although I must stress I dony wish to cover my walls in weird stuff or else SWMO will have a fit A fewtasteful panels here and there may be ok. At the moment the room is kind of harsh and bright so i guess some soft furnishings would be in order so I am moving two leather sofas in there and some curtains for each of the two windows but after that its really about what and how many acosutic panels need to be fitted and where. The room is about 10ftx 13x 10 ft high approx i guess.

Re: accoustically treat my audio room
can you do a room plan please, with the furniture items in there, unfortunately its not as easy as saying 'stick 3 panels there and a unit there', i wish it was though!

Re: accoustically treat my audio room
Room measurements are 9.5 high x 12.5 x 10.5 in feet I have been trying to upload some pics but not having much luck at the moment- seems to take an eternity. In fact it wont accept the file due to their being too many - KB 380 to the allowable 120 so I dont know what to do Anyway i'll try to explain = I have two large windows(3x5 ft) to which I shall attach some velvet curtains for greater absorption, on the floor there is a rug lying on bare floorboards, there will be two two seater leather sofas adjacent to each other against two walls and one of them will be facing a shelving unit -
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...mber=S39831445
which will house all my electronics( plus other things) and two small monitors will probably be attached the wall above and to the sides of the system which will be L shaped ie the top left hand quadruple section will not be there. i know its not sonically ideal but my hands are tied on this one. I shall probably add a graphic equaliser to improve things at some point

Re: accoustically treat my audio room
Hi guys, ive been reading the posts on this site and am very interested as i had a sound room built at the end of my garden also, somewhere where i can spin my vinyl.Unfortunately i have had a sound nightmare so far .The room is 18ft by 8ft and i soundproofed it myself as i do drywall for a living.its a rectangular shaped room and i stand at the far end (against the back 8ft wall)with the krk speakers half way down the room pointing at me at head height ,,if you can understand that.I have been getting a sensation in my ears that lasts a few days after ive been out for a mix but i must stress that i dont have it very loud at all just comfortable.I had advice to put some foam tiles on the back wall where i stand so i did that but the blooming sound thingy in my ears is still there and now im a little frustrated as ive spent a small fortune on the place. Can bass traps help or home made fibreglass panels popped around the room help??The sensation in my ears feels like theres been water in them kind of thing its hard to explain ..and then goes after a few days but ive been careful and really staggered my time in the room..any advice on my situation would be grately appreciated as ive a few gigs coming up and worry about spending too long down there practicing..for my ears sake....thanks.

what kind of volume are you playing at? have you put any other foam in and if so where, what thickness is it? any other info would be useful too.
You can make your own thick bass traps, easy enough to do, place them at the corners of the room across the corner and at the first reflection points as a start.

Re: accoustically treat my audio room
Hi Matty, well ive put foam tiles behind me..chequered like a chess board from around 3ft from floor level to around 7ft high ,five on the ceiling above me and 3 or so on the side walls just away from the corners.People have said that i'm standing against this back wall and its not a good place for the soundwaves gathering up there i guess? Also the speakers are standing on two columns which stand at around five ft tall or so and they are positioned 8-10ft away maybe the soundwaves are trapping there also.Am quite interested in the homemade trap idea and would like to know if your talking about fibreglass slabs and would they treat the lows and high waves?

Re: accoustically treat my audio room
Hi
So your room is a rectangle and your standing at the back? You need to treat the sidewall reflection point too, the way you have done the rear of the room is ok, but the front will be very live.
Ideally you want your speakers further back in the room, and yourself away from the rear wall. what is the layout of the room and how have you soundproofed the drywall

Re: accoustically treat my audio room
Hi... ive put 100mm rockwool acoustic insulation in the walls with 15mm soundblock boards from Knauf and 200mm rockwool and 12mm soundblock boards on the ceiling. At the and of the room is all my garden stuff with floor to ceiling shelving. The ceiling stands at 2.4mtrs high and unfortunately thats all i have for space so i have only limited space to re-arrange but can maybe move a couple of feet in from the wall where i stand. The columns are built in the walls so to speak i built them in to take weight of monitors and they are halfway down the room on each side and they stand out at about 400x400 and stand at 1.4mtrs high with speakers sitting on them.
