Roll down soundproofing?

My theater room is very irregularly shaped. The walls are gypsum/plaster. I need to make soundproofing roll down from the ceiling on 3 sides of the room to make a rectangle. Im going to make DIY electric rolls but i just dont know what material to use as soundproofing that can be spooled (rolled) up.

Thanks

Re: Roll down soundproofing?

I don't think you'll be able to soundproof the room as you really have to seal all routes that the sound can travel through. You may be able to mute it a little, but not enough to make a real difference unfortunately. It will make accoustic differences though, depending on what materials you'll use.

Re: Roll down soundproofing?

I have a good start anyway, walls are realy thick plaster so i definaly wont have any "hollow" effect. Two walls go to the outside where there is brick.
Maby my term soundproofing was a bad thing to say, im not worried about sound coming in, a little worried about sound going out but the main thing i want to do is to stop reverberations and make the room a rectangle. I think sound deadening is a better term, i just want to stop the sound from reflecting.
I guess my question now is, is it worth it? Im building a quite high end system, electrostats, tube amps ect. If i can get some good material i cant probably make the room for the most part sealed off, not air tight but close. I plan to put it on the ceiling to, just for looks mostly but it might help the audio side a bit. I already put audio insulation in the attic a long time ago, and then more regular insulation was blown in.
I need carpet underlay too.
I think i need something like this exept with good user rateings: http://cgi.ebay.com/SOUNDPROOFING-NO...QQcmdZViewItem

Any suggestions will be appreciated

thanks

Re: Roll down soundproofing?

what shape is the room now? You can buy acoustic treatments that you can stand and move around etc, the idea is to balance the room as best as possible.

Can you email me or post a plan of the room?

Re: Roll down soundproofing?

you dont have to cover that whole area, you can just use screens over the opening, then get the rest of the room treated accordingly, rather than killing the whole room off

Re: Roll down soundproofing?

lol sorry, i was at work so didnt have much time to expand

the opening on the top right, use moveable screens(acoustic ones)to place over that opening, you can then look at treating the room in a more standard fashion, like standard panels or more moveable ones

are you looking to completely deaden the room, or leave some life in it?

Re: Roll down soundproofing?

I want it as dead as possible . Im not too worried about the sound getting out or sound coming in alot. I just dont want the sound bounceing. Im lazy and i dont want to have to move panels back and forth. I just wanted somthing that could be rolled down easy or hung easy. I already have basicly everything needed to make a few electric rollars so i figured this would be a cool thing to do since i want to keep this room functional for guests ect.

Re: Roll down soundproofing?

well you can buy curtains that would do the job, but you risk having a poor sounding HT setup if you over-damp it in the high end and take no notice of the mids and lows

Re: Roll down soundproofing?

Ok curtains sound good. What sould i get? Is it going to be quilted curtains like the stuff on ebay or curtains on a rail like a window? Will i still need a roller or just a rail?
