Speaker placement/room acoustics

Will either of these placements yield better audio response?
The main use for this will be movies, however there will also be some music listening.
Dimensions are L-4.5m, W-3m, H-2.8m

If anyone has any informative links on room acoustics/speaker placement that would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Nemz.

Re: Speaker placement/room acoustics

Personally I favor "A".
I think it will give you a sence of depth. I have a simular set up and am very pleased with the results.
"B" will muddle the sounds as the speakers are too close.
IMHO

Yes, A will be much better because it has the potetantial to put the wall much farther behind you. As you show A, you'll be sitting too close to the wall on the right side of the drawing. The ideal place is 38 percent of the way into the room from either the front or rear walls. Ideally you'd be up close to the speakers, which minimizes the contribution from the room. But second best is 38 percent of the way in measured from the rear wall behind you.

The first drawing below shows this in context, along with first reflection treatment locations. The second image is the response measured in a room using your A and B orientations. It's clear that the bass response is much better with the speakers firing the longer way down the room.

There's a ton more advice like this on my company's web site realtraps.com.
