Bass but not were i want it

Right it's buggin me now
I have my system on at what I would say is normal listening level but I have no real bass any where in the front room. I have loads as I go up the stairs and in the kitchen
Question is
Is there a rule to follow when placing a sub? Should it be firing the Same way as the front and centres?
Would using granite plinths help with bass management ?
Setup is

----------[]. =. []-----fronts and center center under tv
\

sub |
()
<. Sofa >surrounds

Hope the little diagram is understandable

Your probably hearing a node at those points you mentioned.
Not everyone likes bass that is balanced- not having any frequency within the bass region dominating. It sounds flat and boring if you are used to a 'happy' node.

It is dependent upon each room, which is why you are hearing it differently within different rooms.
Whats the dimensions of the room and where have you placed the speaker and is it like that everywhere in the room or just certain places?
