I would be interested in seeing the data you quote with 2" fibre glass panels with a class A absorption.
Purpose made polyester acoustic foam offers very good
controlled absorption over mid to high frequencies, good acoustic foam will exhibit a flatter absorption curve across the frequency range it is best suited to . Just the way a flatter response curve of a speaker indicates better performance.
This is no coincidence but rather the fact that acoustic foam has a uniform open cell structure which can't be achieved with mineral of fibre glass which tends to be random in consistency and distribution. A quick observation of absorption characteristics of fibre glass will reveal this fact.
Oh and besides for comparable performance you can't beat the price and convenience not forgetting the health benefits of not having to breathe in micro glass fibres whilst enjoying your movie.
On a separate note thanks AV forum as we've been using auralex tiles for years on our clients jobs and will be looking to sample out these out as the performance of their higher quality wedge tiles is the same as auralex wedgies.
Will keep you posted on how we get on.
