echo hitting a snare drum in room

Hi I realise that this is mostly about home electronics/theatre setups etc. But it seems as though most of you guys know a thing or two about soundproofing music rooms. I have custom built some rehearsal rooms using the soundproofing materials advised but I still seem to have a problem with them.

One is a rectangular room and the echo seems to be bouncing off the snare drum, so whenever you talk loudly at mid-low frequency or use the mics it twangs off the snare drum making a horrible echo'y snare rattle. Dont really understand what is going on with it, can anyone help?

thanks

vick

Re: echo hitting a snare drum in room

hello Vick

when you say you have soundproofing materials, do you mean foam or panels on the walls? if you have, then the problem is simply one of resonance, talking loudly is causing the snare to vibrate at its natural resonant frequency (someone has a voice of the same frequency!) where is the drum kit in relation to the boundary surfaces of the room? Can you do a little sketch?

If you have no absorbing materials on the walls, then the problem is one of resonance again, but this time you would beed to work on the room itself to remove the echo. Again, can you post a sketch of the room? how many rooms do you have?
