Wall mounting speakers on their side!

My room is very small about 3m x 3m. I have a 5.1 surround sound 'all in one' from panasonic SC PT-470.

The front speaker is going to be mounted under the TV on the wall, but I would also like to mount the two side speakers under the tv, but they are taller so it will look a little like
I - I

Is it ok to turn these 90 degrees so they are the same width as the center speaker? So they will look more uniform
- - -

Also it says in the manual to place the sub to the left or right of the TV, is it possible to mount it opposite the TV, ie behind where we sit? Or there is a very thin alcove where it will just fit, and it will be pointing at the side of the TV along the wall the TV is mounted on.

Thanks

Those side speakers would actually look quite odd if you align them horizontally.

Sub Woofers are often uncritical of placement .. though your room is fairly small and so you should try to keep yours from being totally boxed in by furniture.

I think that you have already realized that your Front Left and Right Speakers should be placed as far way room the TV as is sensible and on a similar alighnment.... I - I is sensible if I understand your meaning and so why place them Horizontally _ TV _ rather than l - TV - l which would look more balanced as well as working properly? I 'm unfamiliar with your all in one system but such systems usually come equipped with instruction manuals and such manuals do often have illustrations that show the speakers in alignment with the TV ... though the sub is often placed to the right or left beside the TV in an Illo as frequently being the most convenient space for it to occupy.

An example of more up-market speakers in a similar positioning situation would be ....

Acoustic Energy Aelite OnWall speakers 1/2 PriceRRP249 on eBay (end time 14-Sep-09 09:37:09 BST)

See what I mean? But you'd need a rather more advanced Receiver to drive those .. someday when your budget will manage it eh?

I hope that this helps,

Arnold.

Re: Wall mounting speakers on their side!

Thanks for the feedback, the problem with what you suggest is two fold, firstly all the left and right speakers are really small like satellite speakers, so putting them next to the tv will I think personally look odd, it will look like a lamborghini with ford wing mirrors, as they will just be dwarfed. The example you provided works, because the speakers are so large and match the TV.

Here is an image of what I have
Panasonic SC-PT470EB-K 5.1 DVD Home Cinema System

Yes everything is being cabled in to be future proof, the sub wont be boxed in by furniture, just hidden by it a little

Thanks for taking the time to write a detailed reply, its definitely made me think about maybe putting the speakers in the top corners of the room. Although some pillock has put concrete render on the walls under the plaster so its a **** to channel out!
