Acoustic curiousity

hi, all. i apologise if this is the wrong place to place this but as am about to build my home cinema am curious as to whether the room has good or bad acoustic so i have few question.

How can one test if a room has good or bad acoutic?
Even if a room has a good acoustic should one still use the foam thing on the wall to increase the acoustic for the best home cinema sound. thanks !

stand in the room and talk. too much echo? too dead? Clap your hands? what does it sound like..

you should treat a room if it needs treating, all rooms can be improved, but its the level of improvement..how far is too far?

amioa, i have clapped and talked and there is no echo so does that mean my home cinema room has good acoustic and even if my my room has good acoustic should i still stick them egg foam thing on the wall to even imporve the acoustic for that cinematic sound and other than using the foam thing what other cost effective way can i do to my room to increase the acostic for the best sound.

Re: Acoustic curiousity

its subjective. Some people like a dead room, som edont (I dont - I like a room with some feel!) Ideally you need now to measure it acoustically so see what the room response is, do you have access to any acoustic measuring software?

If you have treatments, you can try them, but i wouldnt buy stuff just because you can.
