What am I doing wrong ?

Right..... I bought my Spyder2 and downloaded the HCFR software. I then spent hours reading anything and everything on the subject until I built up the courage to plug the Spyder into my laptop and attempt to calibrate my 37" LG lcd television.

I followed the 'Grayscale for dummies' guide to the letter and ended up with what looked like reasonably good x/Y values and Delta E readings.
The trouble is........ The picture appears way too dark and the colours don't seem natural.

I have calibrated a couple of times with similar results. Am I doing something wrong ? If anyone has any tips, I would be grateful.

It could be a problem with the accuracy of the Spyder2. Based on user reports it appears accuracy can be a little hit and miss. Thus what the unit reports is simply wrong.

It may be worth asking if any members live close to you and have other measuring devices to compare and establish if this is the issue.

I can't believe it would be that far out. It's like watching those movies where they have tried to simulate night time when they obviously filmed in daylight........

That's sound pretty bad.

Have you double checked basic black level and contrast calibration by eye using a test disc ? Source that provides digital signal level patterns i.e. AVS HD709 (Blu-ray), Merighi (PAL DVD) tend to be easier than using the old pluge/contrast patterns.

Re: What am I doing wrong ?

Yeah. I'm using the AVS HD709 pattern dvd. I think I'll send the Spyder back to Amazon for a refund and get the Eye-one instead. I should have done that in the first place, but I was trying to save a few quid........

You live and learn....
