Front speakers for home cinema

Front speakers for home cinema

Hi there,

Is it best the have the front speakers to toe in slightly or straight forward. Does it make a difference with either.

Conventional wisdom generally seems to be to toe them in, but I doubt in reality it makes much difference as most decent speakers have quite good horizontal dispersion.

Best thing is to try it. If toed in sounds better then use that. If you can't hear a difference then use whichever is more aesthetically pleasing

It will depend on the balance between the size of the room and its furnishings and the kind of speakers that you employ. Toeing in is said to improve the stereo picture but there are all sorts of variables and so it is best to let the speakers settle in for a week or two and then experiment with speaker placement.

toe-in should make the tweeters more noticeable as the higher frequencies are much more directional than mid and low, but Arnold is correct, many variables contribute to the sound that reaches your ears
