I saw an idea that was installed by Brilliant Living, a company in Yorkshire, that covered an entire wall in ATF and I want to do the same but so far all the feedback im getting is that the max width roll is 1.7m i would need at least a width of 2.4 m
any ideas where I might source this |

What does ATF stand for? Nevermind, it's in the title...

Hi David
I`m in Yorkshire and have just used some Devore velvet to cover my walls with, its also covering my inwall MK150`s as well and is 100% ATF.
The company who makes it is Whaleys at Bradford, Devore is 45" width on the roll but they do have other fabrics wider.
Couple of questions why 2.4 mtr width and can`t it be used the other way.
For what purpose it is to be used for as I`m intrigued
If you want to see how I used the fabric in my cinema room click on my blue sig at the bottom
cheers AL

cheers AL | Thanks for that Al, I have built stud wall plastered etc save for the fronts, centre and sub speakers. I plan to fit electric ceiling mounted screen that will come down infront of stud wall. I wanted to cover the entire wall in the ATF so it hides the speakers as they are in wall ones.
I have also seen another alternative used where they use a screen printed pic on the ATF and these are hung on walls, but personall they would look daft in the speaker position on my wall.
I tried to see which page had your use of ATF?? could see but loved the set up and lighting |

Oh sorry Al forgot to mention i do really want to hang other way but as i was struggling to find a greater width than 1.7 i just stated the narrowest size ie floor to ceiling, room width is 3.3m |

Hi David
is it to go in a cinema room to darken it ?
What I have done is to make wooden frames like picture frames which have the bevelled edge on the outside, I covered these with the velvet stapled on the rear on the frame then used velcro to put them up.
the black devore is really really black and you simply cannot see where the frames start and stop, if your using a lighter fabric you could use them in a brick bond effect which looks stunning.
I`ve seen a photo of this done and thats what made me do what I have
Is it to cover speakers then, tell us more
a pic or 2 wouldn`t go amiss either and if you don`t post any we`ll have to come round and take are own , |

The fabric I'm using has a width of 1.7m, not seen wider than this. Have you considered breaking the wall up into panels? Personally I think it would give a better look than 1 huge sheet which may be prone to sagging and other issues (if it's damaged and can't be fixed then the whole wall needs replacing).
Here's an example from a popular US forum...

The Brilliant Living Demo room uses Guildford of Maine Anchorage fabric. This is fitted in the classic AT stretch fabric style:
Wall is studded, plastic clamp profiles are applied to the wall and then the fabric is stretched in to them. There are vertical seams to accommodate the limitation of the fabric width. This is a very quick, easy and reliable method and is used to some extent in 90% of the cinemas we are involved with these days.
David - I hope that this has helped and that you can get useful answers to your other questions elsewhere on the forum.

Camira is probably still the easiest but GOM is also pretty easy to get hold of.

Hi,
If I can just jump on the back of this discussion for a moment, I have a semi-related question. I'm looking to cover my walls with fabric, probably panels like the picture linked to above. My plan was to use non ATF wrapped around foam panels and glue/velcro them to the wall. I was going non ATF (faux suede etc) as I didn't want to over treat the room and kill the dynamics. I do appreciate that even this would absorb some frequencies though.
This thread has made me re-think this approach. Should I be using an ATF and allow the sound to pass through to the plasterboard below?
I'd appreciate any thoughts on this as I've just ordered the foam and don't want to waste money on that if I should go with another method.
Cheers
Rob

depends on the fabric, the absorption curve will narrow and you will get mid range absorption more than the higher frequencies, its not necessarily a bad thing
