Re: Dreamcast scart problems

This is quite a common problem. The dreamcast gives out RGB but instead of using a full composite signal for sync it only sends a stripped down sync signal. There is no composite signal. So if your television lacks RGB on its scart you will not get a picture at all. Other consoles will give you a full colour composite image when you plug the cable into a scart socket that doesn't have RGB. Also some later tvs get a bit confused by the lack of composite for sync.

The solution is to make sure the dreamcast scart lead is connected to a RGB scart socket for starters. Most televisions only have one RGB scart socket. The first scart socket, i.e. AV1. Check your manual.

If you know the socket is RGB but you still don't get a picture you can sometimes get an image by plugging the dreamcast scart plug into the back of a sky box (the decoder/vcr scart socket) and get a RGB image relayed via the sky box. This might also work through over boxes like freeview pvrs that also relay the scart RGB signals.

Best of luck.

Composite Video signal is disabled on the Dreamcast RGB Instead the Dreamcast outputs a C-Sync signal to the Scarts Composite Video pin, so that the TV can still get the Dreamcasts RGB signal.
for an RGB Scart connection you must always have a Composite Video (Or C-Sync) signal.

check out this post on another forum read post 8 by Link83 that should give you some more info my plasma hates Dreamcast RGB - NTSC-uk.com Forums

All i can say is if your TV support's S-video go with that its not as sharp as RGB but its batter than Composite AV & RF

The problem I have with RGB and the Dreamcast is that the official Scart dosnt seem to sent the signal to tell the TV to go 16:9 where as my 3rd Party one dose.
