10 years of dreamcast.

Tomorrow is the 10 year anniversary of the sega dreamcast, any other fans here?

my fav title is still Jet Set Radio - bloody brilliant that was.

Im one of the only people i know that actually sat and finished Shenmue 1 and 2 as well - then there was crzy taxi, powerstone, DOA 2.....

It really was a classic in every sense of the word. Such a shame that we'll never see another Sega console

anyone else here buy DC on launch day??

Loved the DC also. Think I got it at launch, don't remember it was so long ago! Powerstone and Soul Calibur 2 were highlights for me.

Re: 10 years of dreamcast.

As I have mentioned before of a few other threads, one of the best , if not thee best console ever released and certainly one of the most under rated. Just a shame SEGA ran out of dosh, because they sure know how to make great games. Bought mine on release day as well. Think it cost me £200 !

Re: 10 years of dreamcast.

I might fire mine up tonight then

I bought Sega Rally 2 recently, however the frame rate is pretty bad. It's a UK console and the game is PAL, so I guess it just must have been like that?

One gem I discovered recently, Stunt GP.

YouTube - Sega Dreamcast: Stunt GP

SOOO much fun! And Virtua Tennis, still the best Tennis game IMO.

My only gripe with the Dreamcast is that while the VDU memory units were cool, they ATE batteries. Just as well they still function without.

Easily. And by some margin.

I still play both Shenmues fairly frequently, and I would trade pretty much any other game I have played since then for a closing chapter to the Shenmue story.

I got my DC about three days after launch (the first new console I ever bought), and as the games I wanted were out of stock I played the Sonic Adventure demo from the official magazine solidly for a couple of weeks!

Re: 10 years of dreamcast.

Great machine. Virtua Tennis, Virtua Striker and all the arcade games were top.

Shenmue was quality - Cant remember if I completed the 2nd one or not.

I remember the VMU units as well which turned out to be a bit of a fad...

Anyone remember some of the wacky Jap games like Tokyo Bus Guide?! I thought that was a laugh!

I didn't buy one on launch day but made up for it by having 3 dc consoles in the house for a couple of years and despite the stories of failing machines we never had any trouble with any of them, there's a list of the top dc games as voted for by AVF members in the link below.

Re: 10 years of dreamcast.

Great console - my wife brought me one with the keyboard , Resident Evil Code veronica and DOA 2 as a first anniversary gift , almost eleven years ago .

Stand out title for me was House Of The Dead 2 , played on my late lamented Sony KVS 34 . It was a game which I first saw in my local chip ship , which I'd occasionally play whilst they cooked my skate . The home version was perfect , although I only got £1.50 for it when I traded it in .

Going to have to obtain a copy.

Edit: even the official site is still up!! http://stuntgp.team17.com/

Heh heh, hasn't been updated in a while by the looks of it, not too surprising

I got it with a bundle of games I bought from a friend. Didn't think much of it at first, but spend an hour or so with it and you begin to realise what a great game it is.

Re: 10 years of dreamcast.

The DC is my favourite console by some margin. It has been connected to my tv since I got it for xmas 1999. I think I will be playing on it for another 10 years.

There were so many quality games released in such a short time. Owning a Dreamcast when it new was a fantastic time for me, playing those classic titles when they were first released was amazing. Playing online and surfing the web for the first time was something to remember too.

I am having a DC gaming marathon this weekend to mark the 10th Anniversary.

Re: 10 years of dreamcast.

Might be going against the grain here but does anyone else find the DC controller actually abit akward to use? feels abit chunky at times?

Anyway this is one of my only "problems" with the DC and quite frankly im not sure how it didnt do better than it did! Sonic adventure was amazing as was virtua tennis!

Has anyone got any rare games or import games that are any good??

Re: 10 years of dreamcast.

Picked up a DC at midnight on launch day from Electronics Boutique as I was a huge Sega fan.

It's probably the loudest console the worlds ever seen and the pad was rubbish, but there were some great games on it .

Soul Calibur, ReVolt, Toy Commander, Shenmue 1 & 2, Crazy Taxi, Ferrari 355 Challenge, Daytona USA, Powerstone 2, were a few classics that I enjoyed

Re: 10 years of dreamcast.

Can't believe i missed one of my all time favourite games off my top ten list for dreamcast games, record of lodross war i spent ages playing this and is truly a remarkable achievement it didn't care how many enemies it threw at you and at times slowed down a lot because of it, but it was all the better for it and when you changed equipment etc your character actually looked different on screen too.

A late dreamcast title very similar to diablo but much better in my opinion, that comes highly recommended by me.

I didn't really like the Dreamcast version of Daytona, I much preferred the Saturn version.

I know the Saturn version looked fairly ropey, but it played like an absolute dream!

For me, Sega could (and should) release the following on XBOX Live Arcade:
  • Daytona USA.
  • Sega Rally.
  • Sega Rally 2.
  • Virtua Racing.

Dreamcast = awesomeness personified!! I remeber going into town straight after school to go and get Shenmue on release day, then going home and hiding it from my brother so I could unwrap and play it all alone in my bedroom!!

I don't think I ate or slept for 3 days. Just amazing!!
