Question Dreamcast Case

Well I have dusted off my two DC's and started using them again. One is a bit fussy at loading disc's and the other is perfect.
Both of them are discolored the one that works is by far the worst of the two. So I was thinking id look for a replacement shell. I thought they would be cheap as chips these days but I can only find one place selling a clear black one and that is on back order (something tells me they wont be getting it back in).

So my other option is to spray it. Has anyone sprayed a console before? I want a decent finish on it and don't want it to look like a repainted bumper on a rude boys xr2, if you know what I mean.
I was thinking of getting a spray can from halfords (might do the console lime green) but was thinking that will give me the paint finish that I want to avoid. Is there a kind of lacker that can be applied after to give it a less flat look?

Any ideas/suggestions or advice from those that have tried and failed or succeeded would be great.

Cheers

Re: Dreamcast Case

Why not just clean the thing? if you can't be bothered to change the shell or repaint it this link should help you.

I've seen second hand dc's go for £10 nowadays so personally i wouldn't be spending on a new shell.

Re: Dreamcast Case

still not great, but better
finished texture will depend on how the plastic is to start with, but i think the dreamcast is smooth aint it. so it will have a finish similar to the guitar here

Re: Dreamcast Case

Sorry, only just seen this thread. I managed to restore my DC from a mangy yellow to its former white with a bit of T-Cut.

Just pour onto a cloth and give it a bit of elbow grease until it starts to turn white. You can always use an abrasive kitchen pad to speed up the process. Obviously the idea is to grind the yellowing layer of plastic off, leaving a new surface.

There were only three downsides to doing this. 1) There are some slight swirl marks in the plastic due to the abrasion, but you have to look at it very closely to see them. 2) The Sega logo on the front disappeared with the yellow :-) 3) It's bloody hard work!

Re: Dreamcast Case

I have not found the paint colour for me as yet.
I went to a local Halfords and they only plastic spray paint they have was illumines yellow that glows in the dark.
I did not get it but now im warming to the idea
