Blaze retro Mega Drive products

I've been spending the last couple of weeks trying to decide whether to buy the Blaze Mega Drive handheld and/or console and was wondering if anyone could give their views on them.

I actually threw out my old Mega Drive a couple of days ago because I couldn't get it tuned into our 14" portable.

How does the Blaze console look on an LCD TV (e.g. 26")?

Also, is it true about the sound being really bad (compared to the original) and it being hard to insert/remove cartridges? Would I be able to use my 6-button gamepad to play Street Fighter 2?

I just thought the handheld would be cheaper than buying a second-hand Sega Nomad.

P.S. Blaze also appear to be bringing out a portable Master System and another Mega Drive console called Blaze FireCore.

Re: Blaze retro Mega Drive products

I bought the Blaze Mega Drive console from Game today for £25 (down from £40).

My first impressions were that it comes in a nice, small box (fits in a rucksack easily) and I was surprised how small the controllers are (about half the size of the originals).

The controllers are responsive enough - joypad and buttons work OK.

The unit is easy to set up - just plug the video and audio cables into the back of the console and then into your TV. Make sure the console's set to PAL.

You press 'Menu' and a list of the pre-installed games comes up. I tried Eswat for a couple of seconds and it looks to play OK.

I then tried some of my cartridge games and there were mixed results:

Micro Machines Turbo Tournament 96 - played fine (as fast as the proper Mega Drive).

Super Wrestlemania - played fine

Road Rash - played fine (although did hang after I collided with someone on first play)

James Pond 2: Robocod - James Pond has square around him and some of the scenery and text at bottom of screen is blocky (is this the console or the fact that I played on a 26" LCD?).

Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster's Hidden Treasure - played fine.

I'm going to try the console on a 14" portable tomorrow and see how I get on.

I could've got a pre-owned Mega Drive 2 for £7 in Gamestation but thought it'd be a pain to set up.

Re: Blaze retro Mega Drive products

play delivered mine today. I must admit so far I am pretty impressed with it. Bought a cartridge from ebay and that turned up today as well.

My cartridge played no problem

Back to the future 3 was the cartridge.
