Fond memories of the Amiga

I haven't seen a thread with people's favourite Amiga games/utilities, so thought I'd start one.

Apologies if there's one already.

I loved playing/using these - either on my 1MB RAM A500 or my mate's 2MB RAM A1200.

Amiga Workbench 1.3 and 3.0 (3.0 starts at 4m 30s in)

Re: Fond memories of the Amiga

I only bought an Amiga recently (had an ST back in the day) and one of my favourite games was a little puzzle game called Stone Age. I found it really addictive and it had some of the best music I'd heard on the STE. It was also released on the PC, C64 and Plus/4.
Some info on the Amiga version here

Re: Fond memories of the Amiga

Without rummaging through the bags on top of my wardrobe, I can't tell you exactly how many games I had but I think I had around 30.

I know I had Top Gear, Pictionary (board game), Wizball and Terrapods.

Having an A500, I was so jealous of my mate's A1200 with much nicer-looking operating system and better graphics (AGA chipset?).

I got my A500 from someone a bloke living with us knew and I remember I could've had an Atari ST, instead but was told the Amiga was much better for games.

I used to play around with Workbench but never knew what I was doing or why I was doing it.

I had a Spectrum before my Amiga and seeing the graphics on the Amiga for the first time was unreal - had only seen graphics like that in the arcade before.

I also had an office suite for my Amiga called InterOffice 2.0 but I can't find much info on it.

I remember the joy of connecting a Star dot-matrix printer to my Amiga and printing a page of grainy text.

Re: Fond memories of the Amiga

I ran a poll of peoples fave amiga games a while back, although there's no such thread for utilities, an idea for a future poll perhaps?

Here's the best games poll link anyway.

Amiga Best game ever vote and discussion

Re my video clips in my original post, I don't know any other utilities - apart from InterOffice 2.0.

Re: Fond memories of the Amiga

Wow, great topic Paul.

I loved my Amiga way back in the day, Lemmings, Robocod, Project X and Alien Breed - I nearly fell off my chair while I was reading Retro Gamer this month when they announced that a new updated version will be out for Xbox Live in October! - cant wait.

Re: Fond memories of the Amiga

Had a 1200 had the desktop dynamite pack Desktop Dynamite bundle was the bees knees only problem i found was not all previous games where compatible with the 1200 i also now realise that £350 plus a dot matrix printer for xmas i was a tad ruined that year

My mother decided to buy it for me when i started high school i think as she refused to buy me a games console and thought i would use it for school work
had 2 games bundled with it dennis and oscar the latter being the best looking game i had ever seen at that time graphicaly

sensible soccer was the dogs but i think my fave games from that generation where
YouTube - Turrican II (Amiga) Longplay part 1/6

and
YouTube - Amiga Longplay [442] Treasure Island Dizzy
Without doubt my game of that generation along with the other dizzy games

Re: Fond memories of the Amiga

No mention of Skidmarks nor the followup Super Skidmarks. Me and some mates set up the 2nd one across 2 amiga 1200's and 2 TV's.

There was just something cool about 8 of us racing with half the track on each screen

Re: Fond memories of the Amiga

Loved my brothers Amiga (I had an ST) he originally had an A600 but we were burgled & he repalced it with an A1200 which was simply awesome

Some of my top games though were..

Police Quest Series
Sensible World of Soccer
Kick Off 2
Goal!
Wings
It Came from the Desert
Bill & Teds: Excellent Adventure
Frontier: Elite 2
Wing Commander
Untouchables
Knightbreed: The Adventure
Godfather III
Robocop 3
Heimdall
Hired Guns
Alien Breed
Chaos Engine
Silly Putty
Syndicate
Syndicate Wars
Dreamweb
Bloodnet
Monkey Island Series
Cannon Fodder (Still the best music in a game ever!! )

And about a billion more which slip my mind

I might actually dig my brothers one back out the loft & set it up next weekend for some gaming.
Was always chuffed my Megadrive controller worked on it as well...much easier than the old Joysticks (which I think I broke a gajillion of on sessions of Kick off 2 & Sensi lol)

Re: Fond memories of the Amiga

Actually reminds me of the day I bought syndicate. Brought it home with a couple of my mates watching it play. One of them was desperate to have a go - the conversation ended up along:
"would you bark like a dog for a go?"
"WOOF" was the reply

I was looking forward to using my Amiga until I realised how big the keyboard is and saw how yellow it is!

I had a Logic 3 mouse but the build quality was terrible - rattled a lot!

I've got no time for my Amiga now because my Xbox is instant and I know a game's going to load etc.

Re: Fond memories of the Amiga

The size difference between the A1200 and A500 is massive, the fact that the A1200 has a built in modulator for the aerial lead allowed them to shrink the thing no end and it really is a nice compact piece of kit, yep the A500 is huge in comparison though and includes about 6 inches of modulator sticking out of it's back end, but there's no denying the quality of that old A500 brick power supply that weighs a ton and you will never get a like for like replacement for.

True todays gaming much better and easier. But have yet to come across a game that has failed to load up even after all this time.
Got an A600 and a ton of games (like we all did back then )

Fired my old amiga 500 up the other day and played pinball dreams/fantasies/illusions and cannon fodder all night!

All 4 games really have stood the test of time imo. Theres still no better pinball games out 17 years on!

Pinball FX on XBL Aracde is almost the same as the Fantasies/illusion games. Cracking graphics too. New option if u have a 360.
