any N64 users?

hey all,

I was thinking of digging out ym N64 for some big screen projector action.

What's the best way to feed the signal into my amp, N64 never did RGB did it only composite/s-video?

thanks,
Andy

Re: any N64 users?

Speak of the Devil,

I just bought a lad a work a N64 off Ebay and bought myself a Logictech Scart lead for mine at the same time. Dug mine out at the weekend and had a quick blast on Mario Kart and Mario Tennies. The Gameplay is still as fresh as ever.

I bought mine way back in 98 when I was 11, Paid £149 for it new from Electronics Boutique can't remember if that was with a game or not though. Mario 64 was the first game i had followed by Goldeneye and then Mario Kart which i got from Christmas. Conkers BFD was the last game i ever bought, there's still i few games i would'nt mind picking up sometime.

It was funny being at school as 98% of kids had Playstations and did'nt want to know about 32bit vs 64bit graphics.

Re: any N64 users?

The PAL N64 - i believe the best output you can get is s video.

NTSC N64s (JPN and USA) can be modded for RGB output, or just run a emulator though the projector probably with upscaled graphics.

Re: any N64 users?

also, I've found it impossible to feed the n64 through my amp using composite video- the sound is there, but the picture just rolls and blacks out a lot

I thought the best Pal out put was composite (with a possible hack/solder for S-Video?).

I have one at home, but I can not get it to play back on my TV, I think it is because I have a Gamecube lead that could be RGB only

nope, early pal units were s-video, they removed s-video when they brought out the coloured N64 machines, from then on its was composite only.

best to go for US/Jap unit and mod for RGB, but i think you need to watch model numbers as some cant be modded.

Re: any N64 users?

I just dug out my N64 the other day, been playing Mario 64 again, got to be in the top 5 games of all time.

Then started Majoras Mask, a bit of Jet Force Gemini, Waverace, Pilot Wings, Sin and Punishment, 1080º, Yoshi (jap cart can't reme, ber the title) and of course Zelda - Ocarina, which is the best video game ever made.

At the time everyone moaned that there were not enough games for the machine, but I could only really play one new one every couple of months and I was still playing it long after the PS2 was released.

Anyone who considers themselves a gamer has to own an N64.

Mine is a Jap machine, bought on the morning of the Jap launch for £600 with Mario and Pilotwings and worth every penny for those two games alone.
RGB modded of course.

Re: any N64 users?

yup, N64 was (and still is) a great machine, US machine RGB modded and tabs altered for me.

been picking up a lot of games i missed first time round when i was all PAL.

got sin and punishment the other week, and for the little time spent on it, its great. going to finish a couple of other games before i get right into it.

first up Zelda OOT, got about 3/4 way through first time round, so going to get it finished, then onto MM.......

will have the odd blast on KI Gold, Doom, and Starfox between the sesions of Zelda.

my 2nd fave machine, behind the Snes.

Re: any N64 users?

You can use a power supply from a UK machine no problem.

Or if you have lost the stepdown to plug the US one in then you can get a small one from Maplins for £9.99.

Re: any N64 users?

Threads were posted a good while ago for favourite N64 and snes games

Nintendo 64 Best game ever vote and discussion

Snes Best game ever vote and discussion

The op still doesn't seem to have found an answer to his/her problem, which they ain't going to find in a gameslist, no matter how good a list it is.

That he had sorted his problem??

It sounds right, when you feed an N64 into a scaler it often says that it is 720x240p (or similar, its been a while), however, I would imagine that some things like amps would not know what to do with this strange timing and would give a very squashed image amongst other things.

I only worked out why there was a problem, not how to fix it!
Might try running it through a VCR, see if that might fix it!

Have you tried adjusting the output of the amp??

Setting it to bypass, or 1080i or PAL etc. if you have those options????

Re: any N64 users?

yep, i tried some different outputs from the amp, the picture did flick up a few times, but as soon as i did anything on the amp (i.e. exit the settings page) it would disappear again.

i only have goldeneye, because that is all i wanted to play!!
