The David Dickinson 'How Much Is It Worth?' Thread

I thought this might be a good idea... got something odd, original or scarce in your collection and want to know the rough value of it? Well, post here!

Allows for a second opinion... particularly useful for people like myself who are looking to sell a lot of their collection... or just for people who want to know whether or not they got the bargain of the century!

Re: The David Dickinson 'How Much Is It Worth?' Thread

I'll claim the first spot... remember, I'm genuinely looking to sell this stuff!

I have various boxed Atari STs...

At least one is a 1040 and there may be 2 520s - what is the likely value of these?

Also, boxed Amiga 500, boxed Amiga 600 and boxed Amiga 1200 (although this needs a bit of work)

Also, an Acorn Archimedes 420/I full set up - monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc?

Lastly, (well for now), a stack of around 300-500 computer and games magazines... loads of official Dreamcast, Saturn, Playstation mags in here, as well as lots of oldies like CVG and Mean Machines. A few Speccy era mags in there too!

Re: The David Dickinson 'How Much Is It Worth?' Thread

Kinda think this is a hard thing to judge, as you're well aware everyone will have a differing opinion on how much stuff is worth and some people would rather chuck it away than be bothered to sell it at all, maybe how much would individual members be willing to pay for blah blah if they were considering buying one would give a better result?.

I think this is a great idea and it could be expanded upon, not quite sure how though.

Sorry mate, wasn't being rude! Just been hugely busy!

Agree, it's hugely subjective but I always tend to use a well-known auction site, collector's forums, etc to gage the value of something. Also, the current level of interest at any one time.

It would certainly be doing me a favour as I really need to sell some stuff... you wouldn't believe what a mess the house is in! I won't even say about the garage... if I told you, you wouldn't believe it... I should take a photo before I get it sorted as some form of proof!

Will do chap! It looks almost certain that all the old vintage computers will be sold. Consoles and games and some peripherals will probably be saved! Even the arcade collection will suffer casualties!

Excellent buy that! Seems they are fairly desirable and not freely available over here!

This one went for £75 brand new, so I should imagine yours, depending on condition, would be worth around £55-60!

Re: The David Dickinson 'How Much Is It Worth?' Thread

Thanks for finding that out!

Mines in I would say about 9/10 condition wise. Ill never sell it though as I have decided to build a retro collection of old nintendo stuff that I hopefully pick up from car boots only.

Should be fun

Re: The David Dickinson 'How Much Is It Worth?' Thread

Collecting is definitely fun - until you realise your garage is full of arcade machines, your loft is full of computers and you have gaming crap everywhere! It's addictive, let's put it that way and you did very well on that Game Boy find - very envious!

Although I have vowed to start selling my collection, I did get something I have wanted for a while now today... a Neo Geo CD console. £45 with Puzzle Bobble off another forum. I'm a big Neo fan and that seemed like a good price to me! Going to give it a whirl in a min so that I can stare at the loading screens for 20 mins!

I'll be interested to see what other bargs you pick up in future!

Good luck bargain hunters!

Re: The David Dickinson 'How Much Is It Worth?' Thread

Hey guys,

Hoping you can give me a rough idea on a couple of things;

Got a boxed NES with super mario bros. Only thing not there is the bags the nes was originally wrapped in, other than that everything else is a 9.5 - 10 out of 10 as far as the condition goes, all manuals are there (even the warranty card!) they don't look like they have even been read.

100% working.

Also got 'The Legend Of Zelda : Link's Awakening' on the Original Gameboy boxed (about a 9/10) includes complete intact manual.

all works

cheers guys.

Re: The David Dickinson 'How Much Is It Worth?' Thread

People pay what they want on ebay, some times a title will go for big ££ and others nothing in the space of a month for the same title.

I had a massive clear out of NES, SNES and N64 stuff as I could not keep it stored anymore and the prices were totally random, but I did make some good cash, more than I paid for some of it,but alot less than I paid for it at new...

Haha, well, I'd possibly consider them if the my cabs weren't costing me a small fortune (perhaps an exaggeration but I'm not too flush with cash at the moment!) - I guess they had to do something to outweigh the horrendous loading screens... so an extra course is good compensation! To be fair, the loading screen aren't nearly as bad as people would have you think - though on one of the King of Fighters I have on CD that was pretty shambolic!

Tonks01 - I'd say the NES would be worth £50-60.
The Zelda game, complete, (looking at ebay) looks to be only worth around a fiver - which is pretty shocking!

internetuser - I think ebay prices are very dependent on a lot of external factors. If a game goes for a good price then 40 people will list it the next day in hope theirs will do the same - trouble is, it's flooding the market and therefore driving the prices down. Daft really but understandable.

I think it's extremely rare for a game to go for more than it cost new... even some of the rarer ones don't... it has to be something really special to do that. That's why I don't tend to buy new release games unless I'm desperate to play them - they just plummet in value so quickly!

Ebay seems to average out the value at £26.00. I'm sure if you put it on a specialist forum you could push for £30.

I once had a "mint" edition of mario kart on the snes. When I first bought the game I put the box amd book away in an airtight box for safe keeping.

It still had the £60 sticker on it when I went to sell it. Yes it was on first release and I paid a silly £60

I wonder how much it would be worth compared to what I got for it ?

Re: The David Dickinson 'How Much Is It Worth?' Thread

Had it been shrinkwrapped A LOT! I reckon if it's really pristine perhaps £20... but more likely to be around £15 I'd say. I think what makes it more pricey than most SNES games is the fact it's a classic and people still love to play it and not that it's actually scarce. I remember when I sold a boxed copy years ago on ebay and they generally comfortably sold for £20 back then - now every man and his wife sells on ebay (referring back to my previous 'flooded market' comment) - again, you could try collector's forum but I think the max you could push for would be £25.

Gamestation gave me £40 for it. Shrink wrap was not an option back then

The last time i looked (only a month or two ago) a certain branch of comet still had a boxed snes mariokart for sale priced up at £24.99 in amongst the wii titles, they don't sell any snes, n64 or other games from that generation so i wonder if it was one of the staff trying to flog one of their own, seemed really strange that sitting there though.

Perhaps a very odd and rare case of deadstock!? That is very strange!

I've got a couple of Hideo Kojima signed PS1 Metal Gear Solid collectors editions (1 x PAL, 1 x NTSC) Both incomplete, I think the lighter is all that's missing from the PAL, the NTSC is in worse condition and maybe more has vanished but games are still sealed iirc.

Worth anything?

Re: The David Dickinson 'How Much Is It Worth?' Thread

I have a 48K Camputers Lynx, in a loft somewhere. I reckon I might be able to get the retail price back (£225), if I ever decided to sell it to a collector. But the nostalgia market is pretty small, as they only made 30,000 units originally before ceasing production. But it was good machine. The graphics were quite good, but too slow, and so it was never a gaming platform, so died. Technically it was good - it was expandable, and could even run CP/M (well the 96k version could, anyway). It had a real keyboard, and an RS232C port!

Re: The David Dickinson 'How Much Is It Worth?' Thread

I've got one of those Sony Aibo ERS110's - the first ones that they only made 2500 of worldwide.

Mint in box etc....

Re: The David Dickinson 'How Much Is It Worth?' Thread

Digging through the loft today and found a box with my old NTSC N64 which I got when I used to work for RARE, has been modded to work with a PAL tv.

have the following NTSC games ( all boxed )

ISS 64
Pilotwings
1080
Waverace
Diddy Kong Racing
Banjo & Kazooie
Goldeneye
Turok
Blastcorps
Perfect Dark
Mario64
Zelda64 - collectors version

+ 2 Controllers & memory card

is this lot worth stick on the well known auction site?

thanks
