Having a look round the net, are the energy sensors all pretty much just as relaible?

Owl, Efergy, EON, Eco-eye etc?

Re: Which Energy Monitor?

I'm guessing not many will have used more than one manufacturer's product and all I can say is I have had the Efergy model for around 18 months - it's worked flawlessly and it has helped me save over 30% off my electricity bills.

I will say that these monitors are fairly in accurate - I have checked the usage shown by the energy meter and compared to my meter - it's about 20% out (low). I am assuming most manufacturers will be similar as the technology will be the same/similar. This doesn't really matter as I found it was useful for simply understanding where the energy was being used....

Hop that's of some help.

Re: Which Energy Monitor?

I have the efergy one and am really happy with it. I did have a problem in that after I changed the battery in the main unit it couldn't detect the sensor any more. I emailed them about it and got a reply within a few hours as to what to do. You could argue that it would have been better not to have the problem in the first place, but I was pleased to see it demonstrated customer services/tech support are on the ball.

Re: Which Energy Monitor?

i'm interested in one of these however i'm wondering if it will work on a tariff which is like:

first 200kWh in a quarter is one rate and after that its a lower rate.
this is not E7 though. Although i used to be on e7 and had the meter changed i still have two cables that come out of the main box into my meter and then two cables come out of the meter into my fuse box.
Would this mean I would need two sensors one on each cable before going into the meter?

Re: Which Energy Monitor?

The original efergy one I have will not give you the correct price for your overall electricity use with a two tier pricing system.

I would suggest that the cost is not really that useful because what you want to know is WHERE your energy is being used - find that out - and change the way you use those appliances or change to more efficient appliances (going from an old fridgefreezer to an A++ one saved us 25%), that's how you'll save money.

At the end of the day, you need to know what the energy you use a day is (i.e. kWh) if you reduce this number you'll reduce your costs however they are calculated by the supplier - and all suppliers are different...sorry if I am pointing out the obvious!

Re: Which Energy Monitor?

Lightbulb Re: Which Energy Monitor?

Just seen an advert on the TV for tomorrow's Sunday People and they are giving one away for free (even the postage is free the ad said).
