Energy Saving Light bulb - Colour question

The misses asked me to find out why there are no different colour energy saving light bulbs. She is asking why they are all white ? She misses her soft pink and peach colours.

Anyone know the reason for this, I couldnt find any answers on the net for it.

Because there just isnt the market for them, so they are not produced

There's a market there for ordinary coloured bulbs, so I cant see a reason why there isnt for energy saving bulbs. A bulb is a bulb.

Cant you buy a box of Quality Streets and use the pink and orange see through wrappers?

Eat all the sweets, wrap the wrappers around a normal energy efficient bulb and when it illuminates it should glow a lovely soft pink or peachy orange colour?

You get to be flavor of the month....The wifey gets a nice box of chocs and the colour bulbs she wants.
Two birds with one stone! Job done!!

Re: Energy Saving Light bulb - Colour question

I expect they will come in due time - the market is expanding. You could at one time get "regular" fluorescent lamps with various subtly different colours - I believe I still have a 5ft "Peach" one, so evidently the phosphor compound does exist.

In the meantime, has she considered using coloured lightshades to approximate the effect she wants?

Yeah I think I'll pass that idea on to see what she thinks, thanks.

I'd be happy if they produced energy-saving light bulbs that had the colour profile of an ordinary bulb. The ones I've tried (of which there are many and have subsequently been given away) all produce a horrid light with all the atmosphere of a slaughterhouse.

In my kitchen I have a mixture of ordinary and energy-saving bulbs, but that's as far as I'll go. All my wall light fittings have the bulbs exposed and energy-saving bulbs are fine if you want all the manufacturer's logos and a huge expanse of plastic on display. No thanks.

I guess it is to do with output of light.

Any other colour would reduce the amount of radiation emmitted and lower the amount of light.

Re: Energy Saving Light bulb - Colour question

The energy saver bulbs I bought were too yellow, so I went for a higher kelvin one instead that gave of a whiter light.

From what I know you can buy energy saver bulbs at different temperatures. The warmer feeling ones are normally at 2700K and the whiter or blue ones can go up to 6500K.

So I'm sure the 2700K bulbs, which are the standard ones sold in stores should give off a warm enough light?

Here's a site I found selling coloured bulbs, hope you find it useful.
