The ones I have tried are just too feeble.
Apart from making the light itself glow, they don't actually light anythin up. So they are OK for marker lights, say up a path, but you can't illuminate anything with them

Are there any that could be considered a serious replacement for more normal 12v garden lighting systems?

Are there any that even give off any sort of light at all, apart from just glowing?

Homebase had some marked "3x" and even "5x as bright" as regular solar lights, but given there is no standard measurement, I treat those claims with sceptisism. Anyone tried them?

I don't know if they are the ones you are on about but I have some from Homebase that have three white LEDs in a circle on a mount as opposed to just one hanging down.

It lights up, oooh I'd say about an 8" area.
