Buying carbon credits

For those that want to do this suggest you consider carefully before purchasing.

It does seem unfortunate that our politicians seem to have completely cocked this one up. It sounded like a great idea to limit emissions and not penalise poorer countries. Everyone has an allowance based on what its estimated the planet can take and yoou can use or sell them.

I heard that if Russia sells its excess allowance the market will collapse.

Re: Buying carbon credits

Carbon offsets (national) are different than carbon credits (personal).
Carbon offsets are designed as an international trading scheme.

Re: Buying carbon credits

Its a fraud it does not deal with the issue in that it just shifts the pollution around the plate with no real effort to reduce it.

Re: Buying carbon credits

I posted months ago that carbon trading was unacceptably open to corruption.

There's no way of measuring the 'item' purchased and the creation of the necessary credits in the first place is entirely arbitrary with no logical or widely applicable basis of calculation.

It might as well be Monopoly money that politicians issue to themselves and then pass into circulation as if it were real money. It's basically a fraud on the entire global monetary system and could lead to global economic collapse if persisted with.

Much the same effect would be caused by hugely increasing the money 'printed' by governments. Eventually you get rampant inflation, interest rates out of control and then a cruel recession.

Oops , perhaps they are doing that anyway and the carbon trade is just a way of getting more out of the system before the inevitable happens.
