A total waste of time

Attempting to stop climate change is a futile waste of time.

Mankind is set on its road to self destruction, somehow we managed to avoid doing this through nuclear weapons.

Our own greed will be the downfall of us all, with the rich becoming richer, the poor becoming so poor as to only exist as fodder for the western world.

Our fate was sealed the instant that we came out of the caves and rubbed sticks and flint together to make fire, from then on we have been set on an unstoppable course to ruination.

It makes not one iota of difference who is in the White House or Number 10.

now that money has been placed above human life in terms of value we are toally doomed

Right on.

I'm off to fill up my 5 litre Merc and whip a few peasants on the way.

Can't anyone ever see a glass as half full instead of half empty ? Or is it just the depressives who come here to express their paranoia ?

If you feel like that suicide is an option you know. At least you would terminate your own contribution to the awfulness of the world.

Welcome to the forums mate

I actually agree with you, what with me being somewhat left-leaning.

But I'm not totally pessimistic.
Man has some very good ways of overcoming adversity, IMO

Whoops. Probably a bit harsh to a newbie.

Hi moonraker007. Please feel free to vent back if you wish.

If you put what moonraker is saying in context of the water glass I think he is refering to the glass is 1/2 empty or maybe even totally empty when there is a half a glass full in front of him or her.

Welcome to the forums mate

Er, no, that's not automated, I like to say hello, that's all

Hmm, two posts by newbies on the same issue?

I hope there is not an agenda here, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

If you would like to use the search facility on these forums, you'll see there has been plenty of debate about global warming

Although, I would like to remind you that this is an Audio/Video forum, with general chat as an aside

Corey,

Yes, and that is a common attitude these days. Not wise to let it dictate public policies though.

Any idea why so many fail to see the positive aspects of human progress over the past 500 years ?

I put it down to being too comfortable for too long. The effort required to get to this stage has been taken for granted as a result of the security we have in our day to day lives.

It only needs a few unwise decisions to dismantle our current security. 20 years ago the ruined nation of Zimbabwe was the most successful African State.

Try to imagine 2 weeks without power or clean water. That could easily come to pass if the world's economic balance gets disrupted.

Re: A total waste of time

badger I am aware it is an AV forum I am here on request of help in this specific sub forum.

I shelved my HDTV I got at Christmas and went back to my old failing CRT TV which uses 1/2 the energy. and cut my movie watching from 8-10 hours a day down to 3-4 hours a week.

agenda here is to effect change and move forward.

P.S. I am a bit of a pessimist.

Re: A total waste of time

Fair enough

Let the debate be good.

Me, as I said, I'm a sympathiser.

I feel we are messing the world up and think it will, eventually, lead to a dodgy end.

But many people disagree and will not have the argument at any price (mainly younger people, I've noticed).

As has been suggested, Money is the new god

Re: A total waste of time

That is why it is our responsibility to re-educate them and explain to them we were wrong and soon. Also it is an uphill battle for big business and any other group who like it the way it is at this very moment is trying to under-mind our efforts at every turn.

The question is whether those groups are willing to play dirtier than they are now and whether we will give in and play just as dirty to even the playing field. Which maybe necessary if they won't play unfair like it is now.

Hate to say it it maybe a new form of war we are experiencing and fighting. Name of it the information war.

Try going off to an African dust bowl country, having to cope with dysentry outbreaks, HIV/AIDs, poverty, lack of opportunity, war, famine, lack of access to clean drinking water...and if your female, double your burden of problems! Stephen has hit the name on the head here. We in the pampered west take all of our benefits for granted and are in danger of denying the rest of the world any hope for progress. Believe me, 'tackling climate change' is pretty well at the bottom of the list of priorities for most of the world at present.

My conscience has been eased knowing I was not one of the few that started the problem ,as I never 'came out of the caves and rubbed sticks and flint.'

is it pedantic to point out that rubbing sticks and flint together would just make your arms tired?

I guess it would keep you warm tho' - and with no carbon dioxide emissions. You may have hit on something...

Corey, however much I admire your efforts I am afraid you’re on your own on this one. Very few Americans would give up things that you have given up for a cause which most Americans don’t understand or even care about. The average guy or Broad here on the streets of Manhattan have far more to be concerned about then giving up the few pleasures in life we have. These pleasures make our lives worth living and we won’t give them up.

I do appreciate your concerns but feel you’re hitting against an empty room on this one with only Al Gore for company.

Re: A total waste of time

you should be looking at climate change as a reaction of what we are doing wrong.

climate change is part of a bigger picture everything going on is interconnected not compartmentalized.

The root of our problem is not the climate change but the current human actions which puts self above all other things in life.

There needs to be balance.

Things, items, and money do not give you an identity(you were programed over time to believe this, mainly by advertisement.). Your identity is how you act and react to things and situations in life.

Our environments is an external view of our actions and reactions. Our dieing ecosystem is a visual cue that we as humans are doing something seriously wrong.

Do you even have a conscience?(This question is not an attack just simply getting to question your own motives and values and whats right from wrong.)

In the rich countries do we have the right to stuff ourselves silly at the expense of everybody else and everything else in the world?

I think I now understand why USA is no longer the head of human rights. We in the USA are hypocritical saying that we support our own human bill of rights and that we have a right to have our rights protected, when many of the human race around the world suffer from lack of the rights, which we take for granted by hogging much of the world resources at the expense of others. We have crossed the metamorphic line of one mans actions shall not infringe on another mans space by impacting those other humans indirectly by our excessive consumption.

Re: A total waste of time

Manhattan mike don't take this the wrong way but in the location of saying where you are from putting it in those words is arrogant.

There is only different and diversity no one is better than anyone else.
Thinking such a thing that we are better than others is just out of touch with reality.

I am American too. you know our free speech process.

Its time we Americans swallow are pride. It is time we grow up and be responsible for our actions, it is time we do the right thing and realize we are no better than the next human.

You can be patriotic without being arrogant.

Just a thought people perceive us by what info we share about yourself
and by our actions.

Re: A total waste of time

I am here to educate those that do not understand to try to get through to them why it is important to change their own thinking process and actions on their own in hopes that enough of us change to prevent the worst from happening or before change is forced on us in ways we will not be able to adapt too.

The whole world is in the same boat whoever rocks the boat will affect everybody. this goes against the bill of rights in means of the action vs other rights.
