Abandon hope..

The preset G8 meeting reminds me of a get together of medieval tyrants and robber barons.

They rattle their battered swords while Rome (or rather our world) burns.

Rasputin threatens Europe with his rusting missiles to curry favour at home where the **** continuously hits the Russian fan. Meanwhile Goergey "imbecile" Burning Bush grins like a dribbling cretin at the cameras. He doesn't even know what day it is without a dummy card.

What they ignore, at our peril, is a possible crash in oxygenating plankton.
Past rises in CO2 were responsible for major fauna disappearances and dwarfism over many millions of years.

Trees offer negligible oxygen in comparison with that provided by oceanic plankton. Deep sea drilling has shown major crashes in plankton species which were largely responsible for oxygenating our atmosphere. These crashes were triggered by rising temperatures.

Last time round horses grew to the the size of domestic cats.

Re: Abandon hope..

But it's a lovely sunny day. Can I abandon hope next week when they are predicting some naff weather? It's much easier to abandon hope when the sun isn't shining.
(horses growing to the size of domestic cats will really knacker the Grand National tho'- Tiddles didn't fall at the third fence, but curled up and went to sleep, while Ginger was distracted at the last by a small bird nesting in the hedge)
