carbon tax to arrive in France

So they have decided on a rate of 14€ per tonne of CO2, which equates to an extra 3.3 centimes per litre. I can only imagine that the same rate will be levied across Europe.
So, good or bad or just indifferent?

Re: carbon tax to arrive in France

Depends what they do with the money IMO. If it gets invested in renewables (or research into), then I guess, long term, it's not bad. On the other hand, if the money is just used as general taxation, then I suspect all that will happen is that prices will rise (for anything which is maunfactured and / or transported), but it'll have very little impact on the environment. Of course, if it increases the cost of production within the EU, then it will be a further insentive for manufacturers to switch production to other coutries with low Carbon taxes.

As ever, those who can least afford higher prices will feel the most pain.

That's just my opinion.
